will let me start my giving you some info
I have lot's of anime on dvd, and would like to be able to make some vcd or svcd of them. now I keep on running in to an file size is too big to fit on one cd-R 80 min
the play time is about 1:39:00 about that = 100 min
I can always cut it. but I would really like to keep it all on one cd -R and I was wondering what is the best way to go about doing that? and still have good quality

The only choices you have are:
1)Cut the file
2)Reencode and lower the bitrate. Use this calc. to find out what to change it to - http://www.vcdhelp.com/calc.htm
I only dream in black & white...

standard VCD 2.0 settings allows for 74 min of mpg to fit on 74 min CD-R
btw....don't bother going any lower than this...cuz the quality of standard VCD 2.0 is already not that great..so don't try to fit more than 74 min..unless u using 80 min CD-R, then i suppose the max u should try to fit is 80 min of mpg
