  1. Basically, I've converted my divx files into DVD using DivxtoDVD and copied the files to DVD+R using CopytoDVD. However, when I play the movie both in my computer DVD Player and Standalone DVD Player somewhere in the middle of the movie it starts to PAUSE and basically that's the end of it. Even if I try to forward the movie/scene it just wont work.
I don't think the problem is from the conversion part because after converting my divx into DVD I checked to see the converted files and played it and the movie is still actually perfect.
So it's only after I burn the DVD.
Would really appreciate if someone could help me find out what the prob. is. thanks in advance.

The same thing happened to me. I bought 25 Ritek and 50 Ridata disks and burned 25 DVD back-ups and converted two TV series to DVD and every single one of them froze and skipped.

The problem was crappy media. I tried some Fuji disks and the problem disappeared.

I doubt it's the Ritek media as that's all I use (both the + and -) and get great results. I also use DivxToDVD and CopyToDVD (for the same purpose as you describe) but I make sure that the only file system that goes on the disc is UDF. Before I set it this way, a disc with anything in addition to UDF might behave somewhat goofy (in the manner you describe).

I've also seen this behavior with older DVD players (regardless of the file system setting).

Just because it works for you, doesn't mean it works for everyone. Half the people in here swear by Ritek/Ridata and the other half will never buy another Ritek/Ridata disk ever again.

Like I said, I burned 25 Ritek/6 Ridata disks with 0% success rate (they all played with the exception of one but all of them froze and skipped) and 5 Fuji disks with 100% success rate using the same programs and same device.

Exactly. Compatibility between the various makes/brands of media and the many makes/brands of DVD player varies wildly.

@Noddle, I suggest you look up your DVD player in the DVD players list on the left of the page to see if any other owner reports success with a certain brand of media and try them. If this info is not available. many online media suppliers sell 'sample packs' of different brands for you to find out what works best for you and your player.

I think it's more of a media compatability issue with the burner instead of the player in this case since it can't be read from the same DVD Writer which burned the disk (which is the case with all the disks I burned) but you make a good point.

    That's a great idea.

A-ha! Firmware! I forgot about that. I had a burner I had bought that would not burn any DVD's successfully until I had updated the firmware. Excellent point!

That's why I mentioned the Ridata also. Seems like all disks made by them are junk. Another user argued that it was only the G5s since the G4s worked great for him but when I checked the stats on the disks, one was G4 and the other was G5, although they both said G5 on the retail sticker.

A few people recommended updating the firmware and flashing the drive and when I went to buy a new burner when the flashed one (that was 5 months old) wouldn't work anymore, they told me it had a one year instore warranty that I could've used if I hadn't flashed it. An expensive price to pay for using cheap media.

Well, I learned one thing in the process. If it says "Made In Taiwan" on the label, don't buy it.

I use ridata all the time and it is fine and very cheap. Often firmware and or speed changes can improve burns. Flashing is only a problem with warranty when you use hacked firmware. But even then, with many burners it is possible to reflash back to your original firmware and no one will be the wiser. It is possible that the problem is with burn speed, conversion or maybe labels are envolved.

Well, if the original poster doesn't reply back after using a different media, I guess we'll never know what the problem was.
