i've authored a dvd and output all of the necessary files/folders. i've
successfully burned the compilation on another machine. now i've set
up a spare machine just for burning discs and have moved the
compilation to this new machine. on the old machine i had other burning software. on the new machine i have nero 6 something. i thought i'd
just load all of the folders/files into nero and burn as a data dvd. this
always worked on my other software. when i try to do this in nero i get
    a warning starting out:

"You have added DVD-Video to a compilation
type that will not result in a DVD-Video compliant disc.
To create discs playable in standalone DVD-Video
players, please use the DVD-Video compilation type."

i'm not sure what this means. i burned one just as a data dvd and it
seems to play ok in my dvd players. also burned one by choosing:

copy and backup--->copy entire dvd video--->dvd-video files

this one also plays fine in my dvd players. main difference seems
to be that the second way of doing the burn offers a video preview
window and some quality options. the quality options imply some
possible compression is going on. this is something i don't want as
i've already completely authored the disc.

bottom line is i just need to burn these discs and have them be
playable in other people's standalone players. can anyone clarify
this process for me? or point me to where the answers lie? if the
quality options are set to 100%, is there no compression being
added? in this window is compression being added always? is the
warning message just an idiot-proofing measure by ahead? can
i, in fact, just use a data burn?

    thanks,
    BabaG

If you already have the VIDEO_TS folder, just select 'DVD-Video' in Nero. Drag or drop the contents of your VIDEO_TS folder into the Nero VIDEO_TS folder that's displayed and click burn. That's all.

You don't need to use or put anything in the AUDIO_TS folder.

thanks for the tips. i already have a video_ts folder so nero gives a
warning when i try to put my existing structure into the nero video_ts
folder. here's the folder structure that i'm trying to copy from my
    hard drive.

    AUDIO_TS
    Document
    DVDTmp
    Menus
    mpi
    VIDEO_TS
    vmgm
    vts_1

i don't want to recode anything. i just want it to play on most
standalone players. fwiw, it was authored in impression.

    thanks,

All you need is the VIDEO_TS directory. I got no idea what all those other folders are
    If in doubt, Google it.

i need the documents folder at least. it has things like my
resume and notes regarding the video clips on the dvd.
does the video_ts folder also carry the menus? they're
    not in the menu folder?

Yep. Menus will be in either VIDEO_TS.VOB or the VTS_xx_0.VOB files.
    If in doubt, Google it.

thanks jim. your guide is straightforward and clear.
from the nero express screen you show, how would
i include the documents folder? oh yeah, and the
process your guide illustrates, it's not recompressing
    or recoding?

    thanks again,

My guide is for burning, and burning only. I dunno whether you can add the documents folder using the DVD-Video template. When you get to the screen where it show an AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folder, try dragging and dropping your documents folder to the same level as them - it may or may not work. I think you'll have to switch to the "Full" Nero, select New UDF/ISO DVD, and then add your VIDEO_TS, AUDIO_TS and documents folders there.
    If in doubt, Google it.

thanks again jim. very helpful. since you say 'burning and burning
only,' am i correct in assuming that this process introduces no
additional processing of the video? i think all i have is nero express
since it came as oem with my burner. the alternate process you
describe seems analogous to simply burning a data dvd with express.
that's where i get the warning that started me down the path of these
inquiries though. tried the first option but it won't let me include the
documents folder. guess i'll just have to take a copy burned using
the data dvd option and try it on a bunch of other people's players
to see if they take it. wish this thing wasn't so idiot proof. my sense
is that i can just do things the way i always have and all will be fine.
that warning has me second guessing myself, though. btw, love the
    marlboro man.

Yes. Burning only, no additional processing of the video.
    If in doubt, Google it.
