Hi..
I have tried 3 times now to convert an Avi file to M2V-Mp2 with TMPEGnc Xpress. And all 3 times an error comes with analyzing 50 % of the avi. The message is "The handle is invalid". I am runing Xp, and have K-Lite codes pack.
What can I do?

Analyse the avi. Your further steps depend of what the avi is- the result of the analysis..
Software:
GSpot
Avicodec
VirtualDub
If you don't want this steps (no patience) try to use avidemux 2. -
Abond--> I am not sure I understand what you mean. Because Avicodes and G-spot I only use to know wether the avi.file is a Pal Or NTSC. And with DVDsanta there is no problem with converting the avis, but I have to Use TMPGEnc Xpress to these avis, because it can set bitrate so I can use it with DVDmaestro later.
Can there be another problem? TMPGEnc Xpress just stops analizing when it comes to 50 %.From DK -
What I mean? That you should analyse the avi - that means everything about it and try to see if Express can handle this properly. What about audio? Or it have no audio? Are you sure TMPG Express can handle this type of audio - maybe there is an error? What about the video codec? Is it the current version? Did the file show Video decoder lag error?
And so on, and so on... Once you collect that info try to encode. I personally would try to encode video only with Express because I think audio encoding with it sucks.
Now it is of course very good that you look if the avi is PAL or NTSC. Though this info must be present in your first post, because it is read as:
"I have an error at 50% encoding an avi in my software. The error is "Your avi is sh*t".
What can I do?"
and with such an info nobody can give you valuable advice. -
VirtualDub can sometimes(most of the time, actually) "fix" problematic AVIs. Just open your avi and click the video tab: check "direct stream copy." Do the same for the audio, then File,Save as, and make a new avi. Try loading that into TMPGEnc Xpress.

Okay.. THANX for the answers. I will try to do it with virtualdub. I just think it is strange that converting with dvdsanta-->No problem, but when I try with TMPGEnc Xpress there is an error exactly when 50% for the converting is done. And I have tried with 3 different Avi's. But anyway I will try with Virtualdub to fixe it.
Abond-->What if I analyzing the Avi-file, and nothing is wrong, and TMPGEnc Xpress still stops converting of 50%.? And sorry my explanation of the problem, but it was/is a bit difficult to explain, and my english is not good. From DK -
I am sorry seems you don't understand correctly. What I mean is that the result of the analysis you should post in order to get help with this.
Now I don't know very well TMPG Express and at all dvdSanta. With TMPG using 2 pass VBR (obviously you are using this method in Express) untill 50% it only analysing the video and after that the actual encoding take place. If it is the same, then Express give an error starting the encoding itself. I think that there is a difference between the analysed and the actual frame that Express get. I will try to explain a bit. In the first pass the encoder analyses let say frame No1 and in the second pass in tries to encode it regarding the info collected during the first pass. Now if for some reason it get different frames in 1 and second pass it may have weird and unexpected result - an error as "The handle is invalid"for example.
Well, I think with dvdsanta you haven't this error because it encodes in one pass.
Therefore, the analysis of the avi is unavoidable. The problem is what to look for. I suspect very much that there is bad frame at the very beginning of the file. You can Scan video stream for errors with VirtualDub for example.
Hope this helps. -
Ohhh.. That way. Now I understand perfectly what you mean. I have tried to analyzed with VirtualDub and tried to make another Avi, and there is no problem with the analyzing(In VirtualDub) or to play the new Avi, but TMPGEnc Xpress still stops 50 % in the convertering/analyzing. I think that it is a compiler problem. Do you think it make a difference, if I try to convert my Avi to MPEG2 instead of M2v/Mp2?
