    Hi
I have a Sony RDR GX 300 dvd recorder which I have just turned multi regional from region 2.

I am trying to copy some ntsc vhs tapes to dvd when I try and record the audio comes out fine but the video scolls constantly.

Does anybody have any idea why this is the case, the vhs tape is a private video and doesn't have any copyright of any kind.

any help or ideas would be appreciated

    cheers

You have to convert the NTSC signal to PAL. Just putting to different machines together won't work unless the player converts it to PAL. My guess is yours does not.

    Hi
Thanks for that thought, because the dvd played ntsc discs I assumed that it was converting the picture format, but if its the TV converting the picture that would mean the dvd is incapable of it and hence the picture scrows because it cann't decrypt it, but when its just playing it doesn't matter.

Any body know of an NTSC - pal video converter ? and where to get one
    the quest is on
    cheers

The PAL Recorder/Player probably does do conversion of playback. I have a cheap NTSC player and it converts PAL discs to NTSC. But it won't convert a NTSC signal that is coming into the machine to PAL (What you need to record properly). I have an inexpensive JVC VCR the plays NTSC and PAL tapes but outputs the signal as PAL only. I only paid $100 US for it.

You might want to check ebay if you have a lot of tapes to do and need another machine.

    Just a thought.

And just in case you were wondering why the screen was scrolling it has to do with the difference in scan lines between the two formats.
