I'm trying to get a song to play as backround music for a menu I'm creating with TDA. I read everywhere that you have to encode the picture and audio with TMPGEnc first to MPEG-1. I try that but all I wind up is with audio and a black screen. I cant find any guides on how to encode just that one picture with audio and use it as a background so I was basically guessing. And I think I guessed wrong. Anyways, my picture is a JPG and the audio source was mp3 but i converted it to wav before encoding b/c thats what I read you had to do. If anyone could tell me how to encode just that one picture with audio so that the picture stays still and the audio plays on the main menu that would be great. Thanks.

I'm used to NVE. This is only my second time using TDA. I like the simplicity of NVE, all I had to do was choose a picture, and choose an audio. I wish TDA was that simple

What template did you use to make the mpg? I don't use TMPGEnc alot, but I just tried it by defining a jpg for the video and a wav for the audio. I had to adjust the settings to change the picture size to 352x240, then encoded. The resulting mpg plays fine, solid picture for the duration of the music. Define the steps you took again and let's see if we can figure out where the problem is.

The only way I know how to use TMPGEnc is by following this guide: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/186739.php If you go to the TMPGEnc section thats everything that I did except a few changes. I did ES (Video + Audio) since I was trying to do them both at the same time. And I made up a bitrate b/c I'm not sure what to put there. Other then that I follwed the TMPGEnc section of that guide word for word. I'm sure that is completely wrong for doing what I want to do but thats all i know

That's a good guide, but not for what you're trying to do. I would suggest these steps.
Open TMPGEnc and cancel the wizard (if it comes up).
Click LOAD and select the VCD template.
For video source browse to your jpg
For audio source browse to your wav
If the picture size changes from the VCD preset, chenge it back under the video tab in settings.
Check the audio tab under settings and make sure the audio is set for 48000Hz. (I would also suggest a bitrate of 224 kbps, but that's up to you)
    Then click START.
When the mpg is created check it with your favorite player software.
If it plays alright then it should work in TDA.

  5. For video source, select anything TMPGEnc will accept, BMP, JPG, AVI...
Do the same for audio source. Did you check if it would accept your MP3 directly?
For best compatibility, load the VCD template, unlock it, then set the source resolution to match your image. This is why it's better to edit the image before hand, so it's 352x480 to match the VCD format. If you want a better looking image, then try to get it to 720x480, but then you'll have to set the template resolutions for source and output to match that.

That seems to be pretty much what you did. Your problem might be from using ES (Video + Audio), you're looking to create a system stream.

    edit:
Oops! Sorry about the duplicate answer, Gadgetguy beat me to it. I don't know about the 48kHz audio, I've always used the default.

Still not getting any picture. Just a black screen. The music plays fine though. I loaded the VideoCD (NTSC) template. Then video source I clicked browse, chose my JPG. For Audio, browse then chose my WAV file. Then I changed the audio setting to 48000 rather then 41000. And hit start. Since that didnt work I tried with 41000, still didnt work. I tried with different JPGs too and no success.

*EDIT* The original JPG had a resolution of 911 x 656. I changed it to 720x 480 and then changed the setting inside of TMPGEnc, but it still didnt work. THe audio works fine but just a big black screen. I have no idea what the problem could be.

What are the details of your jpg? (length, width, colors, etc.)
What version of TMPGEnc do you have?

Edit: Just saw your edit. Chnge the size to 352x240 and try it again.

It actually has more to do with the camera that took the picture than you screen settings, but we'll ignore that for now.

Oh, well any ideas on what might be wrong??
I think that the authors of TDA should change this and make it easy like with NVE. For that you dont have to bother with this encoding stuff, just pick a picture and a song.

Sorry to be such a pain.

Well, try looking at the properties of the image file. What does it say?

It could also be something else affecting TMPGEnc. Try re-installing it and see if that makes any difference.

Seriously, here's how to post an image. HTH.

Type filename.gif between the image tags in your post where the image should be. JPG, GIF and PNG are the allowed formats and the max file size is 150 KB.
Note! Replace filename.gif with the file name of the image and don't have any spaces in the filename. Don't use the Preview if you are uploading images.

OK, I just tried using your image and it worked flawlessly. There must be something wrong with your TMPGEnc.

Hmmm... and the setting run through that you typed before is everything you used on my image? What did you set as the resolution. And for the template did you use NTSCfilm or NTSC or PAL?

I used the NTSC VideoCD template. Imported your picture and my wav. I did not have to change the image size, and I left the audio at default (44). The resulting mpg plays fine, your image for the duration of my audio. (I did not try it in TDA, but we're not there yet anyway).

Load the picture and wav first, then load the vcd template,if you do it as you desribed then resolution will not be 352x240 unless the picture was that size to begin with.

Unless you change it, as explained.

Edit: Sorry, I just remembered that I had copied all of the default templates so that I could make changes on the fly. But I did try it with the actual default VideoCD(NTSC) template and it still worked flawlessly.

I got it to work after uninstalling then reinstalling. Sorry for all the trouble. I dont know what was causing it to happen. I figured I would try to see what was causing it before I uninstalled and stuff...but next time I will do that first. I just wish I knew what it was so that if it does happen again and reinstalling doesnt help I will know what to do.
