help, newbie how can you convert a large ( over 4 gig) movie

hi have a small amount of space left on hardrive and wishing to change a large dvd movie file ( over 4 gigs) to a less size svcd movie file? how can i shrink are reduce it to back to a svcd file??
i am sorry i tried looking around the forums , but didnt find anything that make clear sense, so please dont salme me, hoping for some simple clear help, program to change a dvd (4 gig) movie to a svcd format , say able to burn to 2 normal 700 MBs discs, thx

tried dvd2svcd or dvdx? not the easiest tools but follow the guides.
