    Don't want to jump on some one elses thread, and my problem seems to be a bit different than what I have found so far, here it is:
    When playing any DVD's on one of my systems, with ANY software, the playback is slightly choppy, almost as if I'm playing a less than good quality, or the system is bogging down. My system is still fairly decent, all drives are set at UDMA, optimal memory timings, etc., all unnecessary TSR's are terminated, latest drivers, patches and all else.
    Tried: WMP, Nero Media Player (in 6. Ultra), Ulead DVD, even the garbageware that comes on commercial DVD's. Funny cause all of my other systems do just fine, even the much slower/less memory, etc.
    Ugh..........

  2. Which real programs are you using.? Do you have the latest dvd decrypter? How about dvd shrink or DVD2one? More info would be good.

    Hi Mobo57;

    This may not apply to you, but I just went through this with my NEC3520A. On the same computer my TSST552B (using firmware rev TS06) did just fine, but my NEC kept playing "choppy" - even with factory made disks.

    I'd thought that they were both set to DMA "on" (since I enabled it through XP), but NEC's firmware rev 1.04 apparently doesn't support that (only thing I can think of, since when I checked it out on Nero, I found that DMA was most assuredly OFF - after I'd enabled it and even performed a warm boot!).

    Anyway, just reflashed my NEC to the latest OEM firmware, rev 3.04, and DMA is ON now so it plays back fine - very smooth, as it should. Also, it records fine - I'd been having trouble with 4x Memorex DVD+RW's on both my burners, and I just burned one on the NEC without "issues" as a test.

    So, even if you have set DMA "on" in Windows, perhaps you should check it through Nero's information tools and see if it really IS on. If not, perhaps your drive manufacturer has a newer firmware revision that addresses the issue.

    If this doesn't apply to you, sorry for wasting your time.
    Good luck and all the best,
    Morse2

    Have dvd decrypter, rebuild, shrink, Avisync, Adobe Premier, Studio 9, Nero Ultra 6, all of the latest and necessary plugins/codecs. Commercial players are Ulead and Nero.
    Checked in 3 different programs, Nero, Sisoft, and Everst, all show UDMA mode.
    There is a firmware upgrade for my dvd on the Memorex site, but it won't work. Techsupport says I have a different firmware???? Not to matter, system acted the same with my "old" Pioneer 106.

    Life is like a pothole, you just have to learn to get around it.

    Latest I think, 3.5.4.0. All the rest of my software is either the latest version or with all patches.
