How do I edit an audio file, where people are talking, to make it sound like they're talking in telephone?

I agree with the bandpass filter but the voice bandwidth of a phone conversation ranges from 300Hz to 3.4KHz according to specifications.

3.4 is spec but 2.5 sounds more "phone like". Its a matter of perception. Just play with the top end, for even more tinny sound bump the bottom up to 500.
For that hi-fi AM sound push the top to 4K and add some static.....
