Is it ok to edit a VOB without reauthoring? I have authored a disc with several tv shows on it (each show is one VOB). One of the shows (VOBs) I have noticed is out of sync. Can I edit that vob with something like VideoReDo and then simply replace the original VOB with the edited one in the VIDEO TS folder... and then burn the DVD without re-authoring?
I have never tried it because I did not know if inserting a different VOB will conflict with any info that is contained in the rest of the DVD title set.
Thanks
Brian

Ive done something like that (I think) with VOBBlanker. I generally try to get as much space as possible from a movie. There have been times where all I needed was an extra 25 MB or so and the movie wont have to be compressed. All I needed to do was cut out some of the credits. I couldnt blank the entire cell that contained the credits because there was some video in there as well. But blanker allowed me to cut out the part I didnt want and then burn the movie with out reauthoring. I think thats what you want to do basically, correct? Just make sure to check off "Use Input Folder" and the original file you edit will be replaced with the edited version. Or, in case you want to make sure you dont mess up, dont check off that option and then choose a different output folder. That way you will still have the copy of the original movie file. VOBBlanker will create a copy of the entire movie w/ edits in the output folder. If you are satisfied with the results, burn that folder. And the best part....its all FREE!!

tools like vobblanker effectively reauthor, so they are a little bit safer than simply editing a vob and then popping it back in. You can try it, but I suspect it wont work.

I've got a feeling that your IFO files will all be up the creek if you do it as-is. AFAIK the IFO files contain sector addresses for navigation to where the titlesets/PGCs start, so you'd have to run some sort of update on the VIDEO_TS.IFO and VTS_xx_0.IFO (the IFO corresponding to the VOB you're changing). IIRC IFOEdit's "Get VTS Sectors" might be able to assist.
If in doubt, Google it.
