    Hi fLoWeRgirl,

    Welcome to the forums.

Use a tool like DVDDecrypter (<--- this is in red coz there's a link) to identify and then rip the desired footage / trailer to your hard drive.

You'll end up with a VOB file containing what you wanted.

If you click on the link pointed out in brackets, it'll take you to a page where you can download the tool, and there's also a load of guides which use that tool. One or more of them will be able to help you learn how to use the tool.

What do you want to do with these once you've got them? This will dictate what tools (if any) you'll need next.

    Hope that helps. Good luck...

If you want to actually capture stuff , take a look about at capture cards (pci) , as they are cheap now , but the minimum specs for a pc to capture at 720x576 is around 800mhz cpu , 128mbs ram , and if uncompressed , oodles of hard drive space .

Thats from my tests using asus vivo and flyvideo3000 cards , the compressor used was asus proprietry , the flyvideo was an mjpeg I think , I got it for free .

Both of these cards work well with vitualdub capturing , but the fly cards have a much more grainy appearance in the video quality .

As for dvd quality , this is were the cpu jumps to 2000mhz (amd xp2400) , and is the minimum .

Usb2 devices such as the avertv media are brilliant , yet no where on the box dose it say these are plug n play safe , and I can say NO , disconnecting or reconnecting of these devices should be done with the pc off , or risk the error box "usb overloaded - system reset ok" .

Avermedia dvd ezmaker gold , are an exceptional pci card , however getting a hold of these cards in australia is damn hard , but well worth it , no messing about with pluging things in all over the place .

According to the front cover it is designed for windows xp , but notes win98se / winme / win2000 / and xp as all supported os versions .

So if you had one , and using windows 98se , it it dosent work , you have all the rights to a full refund .

For old pcs , I'd recommend any pci card that captures at full resolution (pal or nstc) , supports win98se as the oldest os it supports , chipset used is atleast a 9-bit (extremely good picture quiality) , full version software .

Bonus's would be , vitualdub can capture from the card , the files generated are not compressed into a proprietry codec format (only the app that created them will open them) , like nero's mp4 .

Possibility that it works in linux as well , that would be nice .

That should cover the capture question .

    And now :

Why do you people keep missing the point ???

Dvddecryptor , while a good program , dosent do it all ...

Smartripper is the choice here and always will be ...

In smartripper you can browse the information displayed about the dvd layout , and almost all of these titles will show , I personally us it to extract only the previews , for my own personal use's .

Also , there seems to be some mis-information regarding "white rabbit" .

White rabbit refers to some type of video that cause's problems for some ripping tools , lookups and alike .

This so called white rabbit apeared in the pal version of pitch black created in australia , and shot on location at cooper pedy , south australia , and WAS the first ever title on dvd to have this included , and I should know this because I bought it as soon as it came out ...

Smartripper will ask you if a file that already exists should be replaced , in the case of pitch black , answer yes , and the "white rabbit" is no more .

This is going back more than 4 years ago , and is not a NEW method to prevent dvd ripping , there is only one method of preventing the ripping process that works 100% on all pc , and I'll keeping that to myself , so simple .

    A clue :

There is one thing pcs , and home dvd players dont share in common , think about it , and you'll know the secret ...

Same as that lame year 2000 problem , certain functions in a pc program rely on date's , 99% of the computer dont give a rat's butt about date's .

If the opposite was true , then why dose a pc still function with a dead battery installed ???

Because these function's dont rely on date function to work ...however because of a dead battery , you do have to reset some bios functions for the pc to work properly as these are lost when the pc is turned completey off .
