So far, I have only been able to adjust video resolution and audio bit rate by converting an MPEG to AVI first and then from AVI back to MPEG (for DVD authoring purpose) using Canopus Procoder Express.
The process, as you can imagine is lenghty. So, I was wondering if there is a software capable of working out the resolution and audio bit rate directly on the original MPEG!?!?
TIA

tmpgenc plus supports mpg video.
but doesn't canopus procoder supports mpg? -
You can demux the audio from the file using either vdub-mpeg (save wave) or TMPGenc Plus then change the bitrate and remux the file with mpeg tools in TMPGenc Plus.
I think to change the video bitrate, you will need to re-encode the file. You can also use TMPGenc Plus for that too.
I don't know of any other way to change the video bitrate.Melde Melda Vessė

Thanks for all your replies.
I should given more explanation. Sorry!
I am learning how to use Adobe Encore DVD 1.5 and, when I use video assets (MPEGS 704x576 @ 256kbps AC3/2.0) recorded on my standalone DVD Recorder Panny E85, transferred to the PC HDD with a DVD-Ram and TDA, I get audio distortion problems.
First of all Encore insists on wanting to transcode the MPEG file and, after transcoding and authoring the audio is completely distorted (in preview the audio is fine!!!).
I have tried to convert from MPEG to MPEG with Procoder. But, afer a certain point it gets stuck does not go on. So, I have used Procoder to convert from MPEG (704x576 256kbps) to AVI (720x576 2246kbps) and then from the resulting AVI to MPEG and Encore accepts the new MPEG file without wanting to transoced it. But, I have audio sync problems.
So, I can't figure out what to do!?!?
I imagined that Encore may want to transcode the MPEG file because of its video resolution, so I thought of re-encoding the MPEG to a different resolution, seen that the original 256kbps shud be OK for Encore!?!?
Any ideas?
Thanks again,
