I understand that Studio 9 needs type 2 AVI files.

I need to bring in audio/video of a panel discussion to add opening titles and closing credits.

I've copied the DVD of the raw presentation into my computer and used NERO 6 to convert the vob files to AVI type 2 files, but Studio 9 just gives me a message that it cannot open the AVI. I also used other software to make the conversion to a type 2 AVI, but the results were the same.

While Studio 9 won't open these type 2 AVIs, other applications can play them (both video and associated audio) without problem.

What can I do to bring the panel discussion from the DVD I was given into Studio 9 for purposes of editing and enhancement with titles, chapter breaks, closing credits and so forth?

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  2. You can import MPEG file directly (not recomended by me). Pinnacle Studio supports multiple formats.

I'll see about converting the vob file(s) to MPEG, but which variety of MPEG does Studio 9 prefer?

  4. It is more like extracting... but try that first and lets see if it works. MPEG files are not ment to be edited but in your case that would probably best solution.

  5. I agree with donpedro - try extracting your VOBs to mpeg2 and then import into studio for editing.

Beware and use only minimal editing as my experience is studio does not like mpeg and will give up if you use many cuts and transitions etc.

I don't like studio for authoring either so if it was me I would export your edited work and author with DVDlab.

Thanks to all for the feedback.

With respect to Studio 9's limitations, I also have just received Adobe Premiere Elements (got it "free" when buying Photoshop Elements 3.0).

How does Premiere Elements compare to Studio 9 with respect to the mentioned limitations?
