I thought an .mpeg file was suppose to be a compressed file of an .avi? So how come when I convert it it's almost 100mbs bigger? I had to encode the audio seperately [with Virtual Dub] then I combined that audio file with the video file in TMPGEnc. Please help.

  2. AVI in itself does not mean anything. It can be compressed or uncompressed, and when compressed all depends on the codec that has been used. In your case, the codec was probably a DIVX codec, which compresses video further than MPEG1. Recompressing to MPEG1 will therefore produce a bigger file.
If you want to experiment, open with Virtual Dub and output to uncompressed video, you ll see the size of the resulting AVI...
