  1. Hi everyone, I did some quick searches and didn't see anything about this.

I'm on my second 5005 now, both purchased at Costco. The first model stopped being able to load disks after a month or so. It would just sit there and spin up then down a couple times and finally just say "Invalid Disk" on screen.

I figured it was a fluke so I returned it and got another. Now the new one is doing the same (its been about 2 months this time). I can put in blanks (I've tried Riteks and TDKs) and they will only sometimes load up, but sometimes I get "Invalid Disk." It will also say "Fail" on the actuall display on the unit itself somtimes. It also wont load disks that Its loaded before! I record a show every week, and the current disk (about half full) just cant be read any more, so to use another disk. But probably after I get one or two shows on it I wont be able to read it either. I've used both +R and -R disks, but I've never tried +/-RW

This is very frustrating because I got this recorder to replace my piece of crap JCV that always flashed "loading" on the unit. Either I'm having seriously bad luck with DVD recorders or they just aren't ready for prime time yet.

Anyway, I guess I'll take my 5005 back to Costco this week but I wont be getting another one thats for sure. I just wanted to let you know because I dont see this issue mentioned in this thread

I dont think my problem is isolated since I've had two units do the exact same thing.

    Good Luck,
    Marshall

  2. I would take it back and get another one. It must be defective if it won't recognize TDK discs. I have the LVW-5005 and it will load any media I throw at it including cheap CompUSA media.

  3. You're not alone. I have the ILO DVDR04 (just a re-badged Liteon LVW5101), and the first one did the same thing to me after 2 months. Took it back, yesterday, for a new one. That one lasted till this morning, when it would not start (just gave me the "Hello" prompt). Took IT back, at lunch today, for ANOTHER ONE. This is getting irritating! I'll see if THIS one make it to payday, when I might get a Pioneer, instead!
