When you have a movie open in QT player, and press 'command-I' or go to 'Window/Show Movie Info' from the menu bar, you get a window called 'Movie Info' that displays various stats about the movie thats open.

In quicktime 7, the framerate (fps) reports 30 instead of 29.97 for NTSC content. It doesn't matter what format ... mpeg2, mpeg1, divx, 3vix.

I use this info to determine if movies are truly ntsc compliant or not.

Anyone else having this issue? Anyone have a solution.

    thanks.

Most of us have NOT upgraded to QT 7 due to the MPEG-2
component, as well as making sure we can get work done.
    Sorry we cannot help....

Yup, I upgraded to QT7, didn't update the mpeg2 component, and mpeg2 still plays in qt player etc.

Probably not, as its not a problem.

If I recall correctly, a framerate of 29.976 is used for interlaced content, and 30 frames per second is used for progressive content -- and both are true NTSC framerates. It has something to do with household current in NTSC countries being 60 Hertz.

It's boring and complicated, but not a problem.

    Hmmm.

Well in qt 6.x, if qt reported 29.97 fps, you are good to go for vcds, dvds ets. If it reports 30 fps, the file isn't compliant, and some sort of timeshift telecline must be used.

In any case the same files in qt 6.x report 29.97fps.

I just wonder why they are reported as 30 fps in qt7?

  8. I upgraded to Tiger and QT7, but kept my Quicktime 6 around (to use Pro features). If I open a movie in version 6 and check its frame rate, it appears as 29.97. The same movie opened in Quicktime 7 reportrs a framerate of 30 fps.
Apparently the actual frame rate is either not important to Quicktime, or version 7 is misreporting it. Note: the movie was created in version 6 at 29.97 fps.

Another yes here, my QT6 mpeg2 decoder still works in QT7. I dunno about the QT framerate reporting issue, but I have converted a few NTSC eps recently, using QT to decode, without any sync problems.
