Well wow! After upgrading to Tiger, I encoded a 90 minute high quality AVI to DVD on my SP 1.8 G5 and it took only 80 minutes!
Tiger appears to have shaved almost 30 minutes off the encoding time of ffmpegx! Result! Is anyone else finding this benefit yet?

Just wait longer.

Wow! That is excellent news. However be aware it might be because of the fresh install (if this is the case), otherwise great. It's weird how this is the case, but MacTheRipper appears to be slower. Can anyone comfirm this?

I haven't played around much with all my dvd tools yet in tiger, but I have noticed a general speed increase across everything that seems to be more than I'd expect just from a fresh install. It's really noticeable, so I'm really wondering why they're not marketing the speed increase more.
The biggest difference I've noticed is that Virtual PC is actually usable - still a little slow, but I used to have to wait around forever after any click or other input.
Sorry this is off topic for this forum, if not entirely so for this thread.[/quote]
