  1. I use MPEGs with DD 2.0 audio as assets and I can't find a way to get to encode to DD 5.1 for final output.
I thought Encore was capable of outputting to DD 5.1 !?!?
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

It is capable of authoring dd5.1 assets, but I don't think it can encode them. If you only have AC3 2.0, what do you hope to gain ? You just dump in 2 channels and get back 5, it doesn't work like that. You are better off leaving it as 2 channels unless you intend to take the time to make a true 5.1 mix.

  3. Thank you, guns1inger!
    You're right.
You know? I am kinda novice (well, sort of) at all this authoring business. So, please bear with me.
I am slowly moving from TDA to Encore, 'cos of the many limitations TDA has posed so far.
I wanted to have more freedom with menus, and TDA is what it is, which means "good" if you just want to author a DVD with a few buttons clicks. But, it leaves a lot to be desired!?!?
Anyway, the DD 5.1 idea was that I thought it would give me some extras on the audio side. But, reading a few web articles, including lordsmurfs' own article on the subject, I do understand that unless I have 5.1 assets, I won't increase the quality of the output.
Going back to Encore, I am having audio problems of other sorts and I am wondering if you or anybody on this great forum could help me out
The sound gets distorted after authoring.
My asset is an MPEG from TV program recorded on my standalone DVD-Recorder. So, it has DD 2.0 audio already encoded.
I did trim off the ads in TMPGEnc Mpeg Editor and the audio of the MPEG file is fine. Perfect sync and quality.
However, in Encore, it gets distorted. It sounds as if it was a voice from the other world, if you know what I mean.
I can't set the transcoding to "do not transcode". So, I leave it to auto, and the preset is PAL DV High Quality 4Mb VBR 2 Pass.
Well, if you or anybody else che help me out, I will be infinitely grateful
