  1. I'm so confused...

Which conversion methods will preserve the DVD menus/chapters when I convert .VOB files from PAL to NTSC?

    Thanks.

    Hi.

I have almost the same 'problem'. I burned an ISO file with Nero and when I watch the movie on my standalone player, I see it in black and white while on my PC everything is OK (color).

I checked the IFO file and tried to patch it as suggested in this post https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=221928&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight= but it didn't work so I guess I need to convert that PAL ISO to NTSC. I also need to keep the menu structure and subtitles.

    Thx.

I think there isn't such a method. Maybe DVD-RB, but I am not sure.

Maybe the payware version, not the free. There is no such thing as a PAL ISO. An ISO is an image of a DVD/CD. It has not format or region.

I believe DVD Santa advertises that it can do it, although I'm not convinced that DVD Santa does anything it advertises to do very well.

The true solution is not to convert, but to get a player capable of playback in both PAL and NTSC.

Ok, so when I rip a DVD and save the ISO file, where does the ripping program get the region and color system information from? Or, why would it choose region 1,4, etc. or PAL/NTSC?

I agree on DVD Santa, sometimes it works and others just closes with any error information...

Another question then, why the patch method (using IFOedit) I mentioned earlier did not work? Maybe the MPEGs are also PAL and must be converted?

Hmmm, I guess know why it did't work.

The DVD I'm trying to burn and play on my standalone player was ripped in Spain (PAL B) while in Argentina we have PAL N. Do you think that is why my player does not recognize it although it is PAL/NTSC?

Maybe there's a slight difference between PAL-N and PAL-B that is not being recognized by my Pioneer...

  9. Ifoedit works with ifo files. You have only ISO file Where are the ifo's then?

The ISO file is mounted using Daemon Tools and then files in VIDEO_TS folder can be accessed like an ordinary drive/folder. I created a new VIDEO_TS folder on my PC, copied all the files and that is how I edit the .ifo files. Then burned a new DVD-RW with those edited files.

    More on the PAL-N/PAL-B issue:

    http://www.videointerchange.com/pal_secam_conversions.htm#PAL, read the Variations paragraphs:

The only countries employing PAL-N are Argentina, Paraguay & Uruguay. Note that attempting to display a PAL signal on a PAL-N monitor will result in only a monochrome image.
I guess it will be impossible to watch that DVD, unless I buy a tri-norm (PAL-N / PAL-B / NTSC) DVD player + TV Oh, well...
