  1. I quite like my recorder but when I am making a dvd and the recording is going ahead there is sometimes a quick change in the picture saturation (noticed on the monitor and remains on the recording), it instantly goes a shade darker. It never gets too dark as the recording progresses so I guess there is some sort of compensation going on!
I have only been making from my home movies VHS tapes so far and the oriiginal are ok.
I have asked this question elsewhere and no one seems to know the answer. Hope someone here can help.

  2. I had a situation happen with one particular VHS tape, that sounds similar to yours. *While recording, the picture would "blink" back and forth to full and then to about half its color saturation on portions of the tape.
Connecting a Time Base Correction unit between the VCR's ouput and the input of the LiteOn solved the problem. *This also corrects any "jitters" that may be experienced when copying older tapes, or recording from low-end VCRs. ***-tac7

  3. Hello tac7, Many thanks for your reply, I have been trying for quite a while to get an answer and this may be what I am looking for. I must plead ignorance however as I don't know what a TBC is, can they be readily obtained, and from where?

  4. Do a search in this Forum or Google on TBC + DataVideo, Sima, AVT, etc,
to get an idea how these "black boxes" help to make better recordings. Some people also use them to strip the macrovision signals, but the main application is to stabilize the source video, particularly when copying from a VCR or videocamera that does not have a built-in TBC.

They are available mailorder or perhaps from your local Video store.

I have had mine (a $1000+ unit) for about 10 years from the days of linear video editing, but current models should be had for around $100-300 US, some of them also with additional video enhancement features. **-tac

  6. Yea, sounds like the lite-on is falsly identifying that tape as having macrovision. TBC should help.
I've been using a Sony camcorder passthrough which for some reason doesn't detect macrovision, so no complaints from me, lol.

Be careful with some cheaper TBC(sub$50 maybe, I've read that don't always work to strip macrovisin).
Maybe others can give you some recommendations that have dealt with this issue of stripping macrovision.
