I just upgraded my 4x dvd burner to a Pioneer 16x burner. Im happy to burn at 8x because most likely 16x will skip when watching a movie. My burn times for 8x is about 7:30. When I burn at 12x the time is under 6 minutes. Does that time seem about right? I noticed that the burner does not start out at 12x but it works itself up to that speed. Is that normal? Thanks.

Yes that's normal, the reason it speeds up is because it writes in Z-CAV(steps) or writes in CLV(steady increase).

If you are using Dvd Decypter, then the speed does work it's way up.
I'm not sure about other burning software.
Also...your times sound normal. -

My point is, it's worth the cost of one or two discs to test your theory yourself, rather than basing your expectations on what other people have reported.
