    Hi,

I've been wondering how to judge your speed compared to other locations from the same provider? I have sbc yahoo dsl but I'm always at the low end around 300k (for basic service). But I was wondering if theres a website for finding the hub for the dsl provider to determine who is getting the fastest connection??? (not that I'm gonna move to get faster dsl I'm just curious as to how far I am from the source - a friend had the same service and lives in the general area but was getting 500k).

    Thanks.

    Hi,

    Thanks JSB

I checked it out and I'm 12,456 feet away from the hub. Is that too far???? Is there anyway I could switch to a closer one???

    yep thats far.... distance

you don't really swith CO's.... just move closer to one

    Read more HERE

You also have to carefull when you look at map that shows CO's...
Story goes: An new subdivision when in and a guy checked online and it said he was only 1000' from his CO. When the Covad tech checked his line with his test intrument, he got 8000' . The phone line starts at the CO and runs around, up and down, all around ... bla bla bla.

Well you get the idea. The CO distance finder will get you close but to tell for sure you need a cable length tester (read $$$$).

    Hi,

Thanks JSB. I guess that explains why I'm on the low end for broadband even on the basic service. Oh well, it's only $20 a month on top of our phone package with SBC and 300k is WAY WAY WAY better than dialup ever could be!
