Quicktime 7 will include the long awaited H.264, but H.261 has been with us a while. has anybody had good results with it? Is it primarily for video for web or e-mail? Apple is hyping H.264 as a DVD content (among others) codec. Does H.261 have any use along those lines?

One of the main features of H.264 is scaleability. Just as suitable for HD as a mobile phone.
Edit
H.261 was designed to be able to operate between 40 Kbits/s and 2 Mbits/s, upto 352x288 resolution. A pioneering effort from 15 years ago for ISDN video transfers. It's old, it's not very advanced by today's standards.
