RE: number of people interested in a return of Firefly....

There is an advance screening of the moving in late June. The tickets went on sale at midnight one night last week. When I checked around 8:30 AM that morning, it was sold out!

Ditto for most of the screenings that day across North America.

That has to say something to someone.....

Yeah. It says that these days, a movie debuts at #1 it's opening weekend (when the majority of interested people go to see it), then drops off the chart a couple of weeks later.

It doesn't matter. Theres nothing wrong with being excited about a movie. But just try to remember this thread after it comes out.

This is how a crap movie can debut at #1. The studios use this to promote the movie as being "The #1 comedy, thriller, etc., in America". Technecally it is... for a weekend or two. A month later it's on DVD. If all you Firefly fans who "can't wait" go see it opening weekend, guess what? It could be #1 for that weekend. That doesn't literally mean everyone wants to go see it.

I remember when a truely popular movie would be #1 for 6 months! Back then they didn't have 18 theater multiplexes. Or movies on video.

    Star Wars for example.

After you witness this several hundred times (as many of us have) you'll get it.

(Edit: I didn't mean to imply the movie will be crap, necessarily)
    I don't have a bad attitude...

    Now that he's made Firefly...

Let's see a real Buffy The Vampire Slayer movie (not that crap from the early nineties with Luke Perry and Kristy Swanson). Maybe an Angel movie... maybe he could come back to TV...

Fox could cancel that horrible "Tru Calling" show and cast Eliza Dushku in "Faith The Vampire Slayer". That would kick so much ass.

Ive seen the trailer (thanks for the link)
and I have to admit, even though Ive only seen maybe two episodes of the televised series, I am interested in seeing the movie.
my curiosity has been decidedly piqued.

I'll decide after seeing the movie, if I will invest in the DVD set however.

Didn't realize. Man, what a pile of crap that show was. Mainly scenes of Eliza Dushku in the tightest fitting shirt they could get her into running everywhere. Doesn't this girl have a car? Well, I guess if she didn't run, we wouldn't have had the privilege of watching her bounce across the screen.

You really should do yourself the favour of buying the Firefly DVD box set first (before the movie). Money well spent. The movie is said to be set 6 months after the end of the series and will mean so much more to you having seen the series first. My opinion.

Sounds to me like you defeated your own argument. True, that show was pretty bad but the scenery was marvelous.

Good scenery... I will agree. But after a while, don't you just want more than good scenery?

Firefly lands on the Sci Fi Channel

Firefly, a science fiction series that was canceled midway through its first season on Fox, has found a new home on the Sci Fi Channel.

The cult favorite Firefly alights on the Sci Fi Channel!
Fans of the cult-hit series Firefly will be pleased to learn that the show has been picked up by the Sci Fi Channel--just two months before the release of Serenity, a Universal Pictures film based on the series.
For the uninitiated, Firefly is a "space Western" set 500 years from now, in a spaceship that cruises the outer borders of the planetary system that humanity has taken as its new home. The crew is made up of rebels who are fleeing persecution by the unified government known as the Alliance.
Firefly made its debut on Fox in 2002 but was canceled before the end of its first season. The Sci Fi Channel will air all 15 existing episodes, including the three that never made it to TV, starting on Friday, July 22.

A Universal Studios insider was quoted recently as saying "Oh. . .you guys probably won't even have to wait until September 30th anymore. Our test markets and advance screenings are off the charts. . .we had no idea. . .when you said, 'Big following', I didn't realize how big. . .

"All of us (Meaning the Distribution folk at 'Versal) really wish we'd just gone ahead and premiered it in May. It's working out as well as "Star Wars" and if we'd started in May, it would have run all summer."
