wmv conversion

downloaded some wmv files from the net that play fine in wmp but will not play in any other player also tried converting to dvd,mpeg using winavi,cucusoft,santadvd and none of these worked,,in cucusoft avi pro get a frame error but in winavi it converts but onlys shows still frame of beginning file and nothing else but counter on dvd keeps going as if it is playing as normal? anyone have any ideas cause i dotn get why they play perfectly fine in wmp but nothing else

I had the same problems.. I downloaded the Free Star Wars Revelations movie clip being offered on the net and wanted to convert it to a DVD so I could watch it on my TV.. Tried DVD Santa and it wouldn't do it, tried the VS0 DIXV to DVD which also claims to convert WMV files and it wouldn't do it..Did'nt want to spend any money, so I followed the link Baldrick provided, and Viola!!! The Stoick Freeware Program hit the ticket!!!

ok after trying countless programs i finally found info on what to do,, the wmv's had indexing problems so i had to download windows media encoder then i indexed an saved each wmv then converted to dvd with winavi and it worked great
