  1. Anyone know how to check the firmware version on a LiteOn 5005?
Couldn't find any answers by going through previous posts.

Got the LiteOn 5005 last night - has pretty well all the known problems:

    * Green tint (not that bad but noticeable),
    * Front input noise (totally unusable),
    * Lot of tuner video noise and annoying audio hum on all channels,
    * Jerky picture when recording from VCR source,
    * SLP/6h mode identical to burning 68min VCDs (poor). Anyone know of
***a burner that is somewhat better in 6h mode?
    * No aspect ratio adjustment on playback (to get rid of - or at least
***reduce the size of black bars). *Samsung and some Cyberhome players
***do a good job to adjust the aspect ratio.

Hoping to at least being able to get rid of the green tint, otherwise no use keeping the 5005. -tac7

  3. Thanks.....it was there all along, but so faint I could hardly make it out.
Just did the latest firmware update, but didn't make any difference with any of the 5005's problems. Oh well...

  5. I had bought one a few weeks ago. Green tint was very evident. Updated the firmware and it made it much more tolerable. But, still a slight green tinge on darker scenes. It didn't cut it for me, so back it went. I'm going to wait and see when the new Pioneer models come out. I will probably get one of those if they handle a VCR input a little better than the current model.
The Lite-on should be $99 with the big names only $30-40 more than the current price of the 5005.

That's an invalid complaint. Even VCRs have a slight pause while the tape and heads meet, about 3-4 seconds. Almost all DVD recorders have a slight delay of a couple seconds while it spins up the media, engages the encoder, and starts to burn.

  7. "recording doesnt start all the time right when rec is pushed"

From what I have read, and what I have tried so far, this seems to be more of a problem with DVD-R discs. I did several trials with an on-screen clock: *When using DVD+R media, the longest time delay for me has been one second, or even less. So I'm happy with that part.

After the fw update, I have noticed now that the jittery video from a VCR source is completely gone. That helps a lot too.

So that leaves the grounding (noise) issue with the Front Inputs, a noisy tuner, and that green hue -- although that's now not as noticeable as well with the new fw. *Maybe there is still hope...*****-tac7

    I just got a Lite-On 5005 and I have firmware questions.

1: How offen do lite-on upgrade the firmware? It seems like every month the reviews for this product keeps announcing a upgrade.

2: What is the lastest upgade version for this unit

3: As I was reading the reviews, there seem to be some manufacturing dates/firmware numbers to avoid. What are they?

4: Are there some firmware versions that should not be upgraded to the lastest if the unit works OK comming out of the box?

    Thanks for any help
