Go Video is cheap junk, stay away.
Stay away from combination electronics. They are mediocre at best, no matter who makes them.

Against all advice I bought one [at Costco]. I use it in conjunction with my ILO DVD with HDD recorder. [Another unit that many have bad mouthed]. I also use the Go Vedio Combo in a moter home. This Combo has worked very well In all aplications and has never failed to play any disk or VHS, commercial or burned. I tried a Panasonic, JVC, and other brands. The Go Video worked better, looked better, and was a lot cheaper.
The ILO works great as well. If you want to transfer VHS to DVD the ILO is the way to go with the [HACK]
THis is my experance with these units -
Thank you for the post RE: Go Video dvd vr 3845. Is the one you have the same model. I want it primarily for transferring VHS family tapes to Disc. Also you mentioned the ILO. What is the model number of that one and between the two units which one do you think would be the best and easiest to accomplish what I want.

I use a Go Video DV2150 combo, from Costco, because it and the ILO look like they came from the same factory. The 2150 is a VHS recorder/player and DVD player only. The VR3845 is both VHS-DVD recorder/player
The Ilo is a DVD [only] recorder/player. The DVDR04 is DVD only. The DVDRHD04 also has an 80 gb Hard Drive. The ILO is a WAL Mart item made by LiteOn The DVDR04 is about $140.00 and can be hacked very easy You can get a VHS tape unit for about $60.00. With a hacked ILO you can copy any VHS tape to DVD. To copy a protected DVD you will need an addtional DVD player. That’s why I use the Go Video DV2150, combo, about $80.00 at Costco, in conjunction with the ILO. With this setup I can record or copy any thing. You can not do this with the VR3845. The two units work very well together and make a very good low priced unit. I have the DVDRHD04 unit
Check the site www.ss3f.com/ilo [Guiterman] The latest firmware version with hack is excellent The ILO and LiteOn are about the only units that can be hacked
I have had very good servioce from this combination. I'm sure you can any number of opinions. -
Anyone with a Go Video combo deck, does the fan bug you? (all their units seem to have fans)
How is the recording quality in the 4 hour mode? -

RE; Go video Combo DV2150
What Fan??? I don't hear no stinking fan.
Seriously. Does it have a fan? I don't think so. It's very guiet. My wife has excellent hearing and she can't hear it. It does not get HOT. As for use check my post above
I dont use it for recording, VHS only, especially 4hr mode. VHS in 4 hr mode is not the best on any VHS recorder I tried it out against my panasonic in 4 hr mode and I think it works as good or better. I didn't buy it just because it looked good with my ILO. It worked very well, it was better and cheaper. -
I was referring to the ones with DVD recorder, such as the topic model VR3845. I believe it and other GoVideo recorder models have fans. Someone in this forum mentioned that he/she didn't buy it because of the fan. I just wondered if someone who had actually bought one had issues with the fan.
DVD recording in LP/4-hour mode seems to be a hot topic in this forum...some claiming that only the JVC does it well. Just wondering about GoVideo--how it compares. -
I don't know about a fan in a combo VHS/DVD recording unit. I have one in MY ILO DVD with HDD. I can not hear it . The DVD drive generates most of the noise but its very little. The existance of a fan would not deter me from a purchase. Most just keep the air moving.
The ILO is hacked and has a 3hr mode I'm using it right now. I see no difference between SP and LP, when transfering VHS to DVD in 3 hr mode. I would say the 4 hr mode is not as sharp. If recording from a DVD I would stick with SP The tape I'm recording is 3hr 1min long. I can get that on 3hr LP.and its as good as the orig. I have some videos on 2 tapes that are over the 3 hr 4 min max. I just use SP and go with two DVD rather than go with the 4hr mode. As for the JVC, its a good machine and expensive. You will get many different opinions. Dollar for dollar along with quality I'll put my money on the Go Video and ILO. Go back to my earler post and you can see that the Go Video/ILO combination is cheaper and will do more. -
I have a couple of them, but not that model. They are sure BIG machines & weigh alot. one needed cleaning after a year.
Interesting thing is that about half the commerical dvds I put in can be copied to vhs with it. -

Some of the Go Video defeated Macrovision. You say that about 50% of your DVD can becppied to VHS. What about the other 50% -
I just purchased the go video vr3845. Read manual a little bit, connections, easy, no problem; setup, easy, no problem. copy family VHS tape to disc, easy, no problem, worked the first time and for my knowledge that is saying something. Have made several copy, play and record vhs and dvd functions and everthing working great. I am learning all the unit can do. There is a fan on the back of the unit, but I can't hear it at all.
just thot I would pass the info alongnewbie john
