Hey!
ive been capturing music videos off the tv for about 4 years now and ive got a huge amount that i use as a kinda video dukebox, for the whole time ive been using the hauppage usb2 pvr (usb1 originally) im now on my third one ! I was thinking maybe it was time to upgrade to a better device , my inputs are coming from a scart cable converted to svideo/composites and because im recording music videos first and foremost the audio has to be spot on, can anyone recommend a high end card that has better results than the hauppage usb pvr ?
My budget has a max of about 400-500 pound which i guess is about 800 dollars.
Any advice would be great thanx!

Get a SkyStar 2, install a satellite dish for Astra 2 / Eurobird 1 and start grabbing free to air satellite music channels, like Chart Show, B4, Vault, U, Fizz, Soundtrack channel, Performance, etc, direct to mpeg 2 (the stream as is). Those channels cover a huge variety of music (from 80s to today, all gentres) on various framesizes (not always DVD compatible, but you can convert them anytime using any kind of encoder) and with bitrate rarelly larger than 3100kb/s
You can also put a DiSEqC 1.2 motor to your dish and search for other satellites, lika Astra 1 (19.2 East) with plenty music channels especially from Germany (Viva, Viva plus, Deluxe TV, MTV Germany, MTV2Pop, GoTV, Ocko, etc), or Hotbird (13 east) with plenty music channels from Italy and East Europe. Other alternatives are Sirius 2 (5 East) with music channels from ukraine, romania and center Europe... -
ah no i already have a fantastic source for music videos (mtv2!) from sky television, i just wanted to know what peice of hardware would be best for the job of recording mpegs where the primary thing needs to be the sound quality , i had the pinnacle studio moviebox usb for a while and the crackling on the audio was awful !

The crackling could be sound card related or sound drivers. Have you tried messing with the audio stream?
