    I often had this problem...
when I split a 1.2G mpg movie ( converted from a 1.2G avi file ) files into two parts, there will be errors. when I test the mpeg o/p in VirtualDub. It will say - discontinuous timestamp found in video stream 0 at byte..... This may indicate any improper join. if I burn that in vcd, the dat will have pauses and pixel errors in the movie.
sometimes I reencode the split "problem" mpg files using Tmpgenc...and then the mpg files is ok again but this does not always work.

if I split the 1.2G avi files first into two and convert the 2 into mpg then there will be no errors.

    any ideas why?

    tks.

What tool do you use to split the mpg? The proper procedure is not to split, neither source nor dest. If you're using TMPGEnc and loading the source AVI directly, set the source range and encode in two "sessions". If frameserving from VirtualDub, set the range in VirtualDub.

I use Easy Video Splitter to split mpg...TMPGEnc can do that? - load the AVI and instruct it to encode and split at 2 selected parts...

Click the "Settings" button. On the "Advanced" tab, Double click "Source range". For first "pass", set start frame to 0, end frame somewhere half way. Encode.
Repeat, but set start frame to the same as end frame from first pass, set end frame to last frame. Encode again.

Mental note to self: Any software with "Easy" or "EZ" or "Eazy" in its title sould be looked upon with a great portion of suspition. Exceptions: VCDEasy (and EazyVCD, according to rumors).

  7. Once upon a time long long ago .. I used to work with EazyVCD. Its a shell which uses vstrip, besweet, dvd2avi, TMPGEnc etc .. to go through the various steps of encoding. It did a pretty good job. But I think, no new version has come out for a long time.
