    No, it's a digital input.

You can, of course, convert analog to digital with a exterior box or a camcorder with passthrough and feed that into a Firewire DV input.

I have a Sony 95E Hi8 recorder which only has analogue out - so I guess in & out will not work. Will look for an analogue to Firewire converter if there is one.

You can also capture via USB (2.0), there are some analog capture cables, which are not expensive. I don't know how it is with quality, though...

I don't like the USB solution overall. But that has nothing to do with USB itself, it has to do with the offering solutions that use the USB connection.

@devdeep: There are 2 ways to do this: Through a digital videocamera than has a video in and DV out or (a far better way) using special - for this task - devices, like Canopus 100/50/55 or Datavideo

Overall DV is great for NTSC and excellent for PAL

Pinnacle makes a device called a Moviebox that can be purchased with either a USB or firewire output. You can input analog to it.
Tiger Direct sells refurbished ones for $99. Otherwise, I think they're around $150-$200, depending upon who sells them.
