  1. I use TMPGe to encode video/audio from VOB files. I use the online bitrate calculator for determining the best bitrate for SVCD, i have tried this several times, and I always end up with plenty of room go spare on the 3rd CD. sometimes a few hundred megs.

I checked the audio is going in @ 224kbps.

    Any ideas?

I would really like to use the highest bitrate possible(especially since I am using 3cd's for SVCD anyway)

For most players, it maxes out at about 2600k. For others (e.g. Apex), it can go higher.

  3. Let me re-phrase the question:

why does it NOT seem like the bitrate I select make much of a difference as to the end file movie size. When I use the bitrate calculator and then create the SVCD file, and then split it for 80 minute cd, the last file still has TONS of space on it..

    Hi,

Are you using CBR or 2 pass VBR? If not, you don't have absolute control over the final average bit rate.

I use SVCDcalc from the tools section of this web site. It is more accurate than the on line bit rate calculator. The on line bit rate calculator does not ask how much CD-ROM space is used by other files like SVCDcalc does. I'm not sure how it could work correctly for everyone without asking this.
