  1. Hello,

Is there any simple software package - preferably free but willing to pay a bit if i have to - that will let you watch footage from a DV device on the computer?

I am referring to the ability to simply play DV content off a camcorder, or a DV capture box (I have a TV-to-DV converter), full-screen, with sound, no nonsense.

Control keys on the keyboard to control the transport of a DV camera would be nice but not necessary.

So far the only way I have to watch video is to load up a capture program, prepare for a capture, then watch the video there. This works when capturing, but it's nice to just be able to watch the video on the computer via the DV interface - just like you would if you connected the camera straight to a TV to watch it on TV.

It seems like such a simple concept, but I've not been able to find any software to accomplish it - HAS ANYONE ELSE?

I use RsDvCap v2.92 for both, viewing my tv (vcr to advc)
and capturing through my advc-100 device.

With this app, you can set the resolution, though I usually keep it
at 720 (fullscreen only works on my system if I configure it to use
YUV (directshow)) and I don't like it so much in that mode. I prefer
it to operate un vfw mode (well, its still using Overlay, but in the
0-255 color range, which I prefere, else with YUV, it's 16-235 range..,
or brighter/foggier looking. Can't quite put into words. Anyways.

It's a good app I like using. Plus, this version now saves to 48k
audio (previous version only save as 32k audio)

You can also drag 'n drop your captured dv file back into this app's
window, and it will play it just as you saw it during your capture,
quality'wise. But, there is no advance or FF/RW control. I never
really use it for this though. Only once in a while.
