  1. Hi,

I want to create DivX from movie exported as DV from iMovie 4.

    Settings I tried are:

    bit rate - 1265
    720x544
    autosize 4:3
duration 3 minutes (I have 50 minutes movie but tried 3 minute clip first)

I want to play DivX on Philips DVP-630. The divx created using above settings resuluts in picture jumping and movie is played in upper half of tv only.

what is the ideal settings for creating divx?

    cheers,
    ashish

  2. Try width 640, or try both "DivX ffmpeg" and "DivX mencoder".

  3. But will 640 result in quality less than 720? I am very much interested in having near to dvd quality which divx offers.

  4. You should try that, mostly to determine whether your player is bothered by high bitrate, or by ffmpeg vs mencoder engine choice.

  5. I tried with 720X576, bitrate 4087 using mpeg2enc to create SVCD rather. I can see that the video quality is not as good as DV though the resolution is same as DV.

I can see square patches on the tv but I think overall is ok.

I still want to go for Divx with near DV quality as I can see in DV file.

  6. Encode your 3-minutes clip to "mencoder DivX" width 720, "ffmpeg DivX" width 720, "mencoder DivX" width 640 and "ffmpeg DivX" width 640. Playback results will be useful to determine what is best to do with your player.
