I've gotten 2 bad PX-716's, and I'd like other 716 owners to check in w/their experiences. (This is for the internal IDE version, not the SATA version.)
1) When did you buy and install your 716?
2) If you know/recall, what was the manufacture date on the sticker on the top of the drive?
3) Did the drive fail? If so, how long did it take to fail after you began using it?
4) If it has not failed, how long has it been in service?
5) Do you use the SpeedRead feature?
6) If the drive failed, and you ran the diagnostic, what was the result? (I.e., one blink or two blinks?)
Thanks, all.

Hey hows it going HLMencken
I know this great forum that talks about Plextor drives, and right now, the 716A is the talk of the town.....

Just wondering before you go, what TLA# is on your drive?
Thats really makes the difference with the 716A -
as Hamp suggested post your question at the PLEXTOR FORUM at CDFREAKS.COM, you'll get better response from them.

Plextor isn't the only brand with quality control issues, just take a look at the NEC, PIONEER, BENQ/PHILIPS, LITEON & BTC FORUMS. Unfortunately there are drives that are defective. Not satisfied with your Plextor 716a drive then get a BENQ 1620. :P

TLA# 0304
Man. date Feb., 05
Made in China.
Installed 3/17/05
Drive has worked perfect. Have not updated firmware/ 04
Have not installed Plextools. I use the eject button for speed read.
Read a lot at the CDFreaks forum before purchase but decided the write quality is good enough to upgrade from my 708A to the 716A.
Only use TY's from Rima. No coasters yet.
$89.99 after rebate. Newegg.
Sorry to read you're having problems.

I will never buy Plextor crap again. Every Plextor drive my friends and I have bought has had to be replaced right out of the box at least once. Then to top it off my Plex drives have failed faster than any other brand I have bought. the last three Pioneer's I have purchased all run flawlessly. I sold two of them to friends and they are still using them.
The real answer lies in completely understanding the question! -
