  1. Hi,

I am having trouble finding a codec for a file. I have been using AVI codec and the video codec that it suggests doesnt run the file, only the audio plays. When I open it in WMP it tries to locate the codec then fails.

Has anybody else had any problems like this with AVIcodec? Do I perhaps have an out of date version that isnt up to date with newer movie formats? Any other things I could do to get the codec? Cheers

    Try GSpot maybe ?

Either that or post the screendump from AVICodec here - maybe someone can make more sense of it
    If in doubt, Google it.

You could try Gspot or see if you have the latest version of AVIcodec. The only codecs I had problems identifying were some of the MS MPEG-4 types.

You could also try VLC media player. It uses it own codecs and plays most anything.

  4. Hi,

Here is a screen shot of AVIcodec:

and heres a screen shot of GSpot:

As they both show, the codecs are installed. When I try to open it in TMPGEnc Xpress 3 it says that only the audio part can be opened.

Hope this provides more info and if anybody has any ideas, would be glad to hear. Cheers

The url for the XVid codec that AVI codec directs me to (www.divx-digest.com/software/xvid.html) is the one that I have installed. I already have the most upto date one.

  9. Hello bizt,
Can you click on the codecs and filter stab of avicodec and show us a screenshot? Also, TMPG doesn't do well trying to open files that are buried in a mountain of folders. Try moving the avi file to your F drive (F:movie.avi).
It doesn't matter who you vote for. The government always gets in.

  10. Is ffdshow likely to work when it doesnt even play in WMP? Wont I still need to correct codec?

Well, IMO, WMP is least likely of all, playing anything, but ffdskiw is a codec, capable of decoding a # of formats, among others XviD.
