has anyone used the firewire port on there DCT6412 box yet?
please point me to some software... T.I.A.

There is a piece of software that will do what you want - SORT OF.
Comcast/Motorola have severely locked down that box. Only the FireWire port is active, and it only streams what is CURRENTLY PLAYING on the box. So you basically activate a piece of recorder software on the PC, then hit "play" on the DVR, and then hit "exit" really quick to get rid of the popups, and then when it's all done you edit out the stuff you don't want on the PC side.
Yeah, it's a pain in the ass - enough so that I haven't bothered, especially given the inordinate expense of a 25+ft. 1394 cable.
