Yet another PAL recording question

Greetings!

I have a bunch of PAL VHS home recordings. I would like to convert them to the NTSC region-free DVDs. I will be using a multisystem VCR as my source via standard RCA output. What recorder can you recommend that will DEFINITELY handle this task. (I can live with the conversion to the PAL DVDs as well). Please speak from the personal experience.

I am located in the US and going through this forum has not given me a conclusive recommendation yet.

Since you are planing to use multisystem VCR for coversion, any DVD Recorder should do the job.

If you prefer to record to PAL DVD, there are some DVD recorder sold in US that can record in PAL. There was one post that I started. There was list of some of them that can handle that.

The VCR I have will produce a PAL output since it is not a converting VCR.
It will play PAL VHS and produce a PAL output (same with NTSC or SECAM). So my source is strictly PAL

My Philips recorder (dvdr985) records in both NTSC and PAL to a virgin disc....not sure about the newer Philips models though.
Since you live in the USA (as I used to) you are pretty screwed. I'd put them to a DVDR in PAL format then buy an Apex player and record the PAL from the Apex back into the DVD Recorder....letting the Apex do the conversion from PAL to NTSC.
That is how I do it but I use either a Skantic or Thomson DVD player and my Philips DVDR985.

Like I said I do not mind having the resulting DVDs be in PAL. So the question remains which US-sold DVD recorders accept RCA PAL input and produce a decent output. My source tapes are pretty mediocre in quality. I am just trying to archive and get rid of them

Best thing to do if you want a NTSC copy get a pal to NTSC converter I use a Samsung world wide VCR and a JVC PAL VCR.

Samsung has some weird Blue lines in the picture some times. So I bought a JVC PAL VCR and just use the Samsung as a pal to NTSC converter.

Yes I did. I spent several hours on this forum before bothering people with my questions. Your thread is dated by Aug 25, 2003 and I was hoping for a bit newer info. Philips DVDR75 is not cheap(about $300) and has average reviews. Also I will pass on CyberHome. LiteOn migh do the trick but the answers provided by their techsupport are inconclusive (I am trying to be extremely polite here).
