  1. I need info on signing up with a web host. I need somewhere that I can upload a good number of video clips. Can anybody tell me what to look for in a plan. Is there an additonal charge for more traffic? No limit plans? Any recommendations as for web host? Any and all help would be much appreciated.

  2. I use an outfit called Neureal, and they are pretty good. I get 250MB of space and 10gig of bandwidth and up to 15 domains on that account for $7.95/mo. Other plans are available depending on your needs.
Never had a problem with uptime, new domains resolve very quickly, yada yada.

  3. Thanks, Matt. When you say you get 10 gigs of bandwidth, exactly what does that mean.

  4. It means that people can download 10gigs worth of stuff before you have to pay extra. I have no idea what kind of traffic you are expecting, or what the video is though, so you may need more than 10gigs.

APLUS is way overpriced but fair to mid service.

for higher service quality and MUCH better plans - just two other conmpanies i know of:

for $7.95 a month you can get:
    20 GB storage space
    400 GB file transfer
MySQL, PHP and a tonne of other stuff
unlimited email users and Anonymous FTP and SSH
    http://www.canaca.com/virtual.html

for $7.95 a month you can get:
2400 MB Disk, 120 GB Transfer
    600 Mailboxes, 75 Shell/FTP Users
MySQL, PHP and a tonne of other stuff

both of the above are VERY good companies that are top tier (are not reselling packages from someone else, and have thier own equipment/location/multiple connections)

  12. Thanks for all of the recommendations, guys. I really had no idea how reasonably priced these services are. Nice to find out that something is actually cheaper than you thought it would be.

That's who I use as well. They have very minimal downtimes and good customer service at all hours. 5GB daily bandwidth is sometimes more tricky than monthly bandwidth (it comes out to 150GB monthly approximately) if you get a run on something you just uploaded but at least if you max your bandwidth it gets reset at midnight instead of waiting until the end of the month.

  14. I should probably start another thread. Does anybody use or have experience with a streaming video host? Maybe this is what I need for video clips rather than just a regular hosting service. I found this here. Any more tips would again be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all of the help, guys.

That's not very much bandwidth. Technically you can set up streaming video on any host as long as you know how to do it. I believe it has more to do with the video format than the storage options, like ASX or QT videos? I mean I get as much bandwidth in a single day as the bandwidth that place gives you for an entire month and at half the cost!

  16. Thanks. Which tool do I need to set up streaming video? Thanks for answering my questions. The clips are currently in .mpg format.

  17. I use bluehost. I now have 4 GB of storage and 100GB of transfer per month. I have a lot of church and youth videos and get a lot of traffic. It only costs us 7.95 a month for all this. They also support streaming video in the RM format.

Just upload the file.... Windows media player takes care of the rest. Providing the host serves the file fast enough and the user has a fast enough connection it will play as if it's streaming.

Here's a 450/kbps video... The audio is screwed though. My estimate is I could get a minimum of 1500kbps off the host which is pretty damn good quality. That'll eat your bandwidth up pretty quick though if you have a lot of people downloading.

OK, I've already gotten that far, that's what I've been doing. http://myfavoritevideoclips.com/velvetrevolverdave.wmv What I was wondering was how you post them in the rtsp:/way? By the way, that guy actually sings 'Paranoid' better than Ozzy does now!
