  3. Are you certain your drive is a 2510a?

Run DVDInfoPro and take a very close look at the model number.

I don't recall seeing FW 2.54 for the NEC 2510.

Disc media codes/Brand/writing strategy? Maybe wrong labeling in disc package? Even if you are using same brand discs allways, the maker may change.

Endless possiblities, your drive maybe writing exactly at speed disc is specsed for.

According to the NEC support web paged the latest firmware for the 2510 is FW 2.18. Maybe you are using a hacked firmware.

    http://support.necsam.com/oem/downloads/flashfirmware/

If you would like to flash your drive to standard firmware just download the official NEC fw 2.18 from the link above and download BinFlash Win32 GUI v1.16 from here http://binflash.cdfreaks.com/

Once you have both files on your PC, execute binflash and for the new firmware file choose the NEC firmware Flash Utility Download.

When the process is over your drive will have the latest NEC official firmware. I highly recommend you that you read the binflash web page before flashing your drive.
