Might be a stupid question but I can't find the answer....
I can only capture at most using 480x480 resolution - does it make sense to encode at 720x480 or 352x480. My source is Hi8mm (close to 440lines of res) - would encoding to 352x480 lose quality or should I stick with 720x480....????
I could capture at both 352x480 or 480x480 at most - I wish to maintain quality after the TMPGEnc encode phase....

480X480 won't do you much good unless your final product was SVCD. You would be better off with 720X480 if your destination is DVD.

But, you need to give us more information. Filling out your computer profile would help considerably. Without knowing what your specs are, there's not much we can answer.

Also, How are you capturing? I assume a video card with Hi 8. What card or method? What capture program?

If your system is incapable of higher than 352X480, then use that.

Capturing using ATI MMC 7.7 with ATI AIW 128 pro agp card.
I can capture using 352x480 OR 480x480 as well - I cannot go higher than this. Figured since 480x480 works fine, it would capture more detail than 352x480???
