I have been working on a project wherein I've edited deleted scenes back into a movie I own using Womble Video Wizard. Because some of the edit points sounded too jumpy with straight cuts, I decided to crossfade the audio to make a nice blend. Unfortunately, in Womble, this downmixes the 5.1 audio to 2.0.

I would like to use my finished 2.0 file as a reference for recreating the crossfades in 5.1. I've successfully separated the six streams using Hypercube Transcoder. Is there a free/inexpensive multitrack audio editor that will allow me to load in my different sets of wavs, crossfade, and output to 5.1 AC3? I've seen that Vegas can do this, but I don't know if I need the full fledged video editor to simply handle audio.

I do own Cakewalk Sonar 2.0, but while it is a great multitrack editor, it does not support 5.1 output. I also am a long time user of Sound Forge 4.5 XP (seven years later, this program still does so much good for me) but that is definitely only handles 2-track stereo.

Any recommendations?

A 7.1 audio program would be incredible, as I could load in my 2.0 reference file in the two "unused" channels. But I think this is wishful thinking on my part.
