  1. Trying to convert a couple of Tapes to DVD. When capturing, there is some distortion along the bottom edge. When converted to DVD it plays fine on the TV, but on the computer the distortion is there. Not all tapes do this. Capturing TV or DVD's are perfect. Using a Dazzle 150 Hardware mpeg decoder with studio 9. Please spare me the studio 9 bashing, with a Dazzle I have no choice.

I've been told that is 'switching noise' from the VCR head. All VHS captures I've done show it. When played on a TV it's hidden by overscan.

poorboy I'm wodering about the same thing, did you see this thread from today?

If you read that you'll realize I'm glad to hear it works fine on TV.
WEhat is happening is that your capture card captures the entire signal which includes the junk along the bottom which is there on all VHS, you just don't normally see it. If you want to watch it on a comp then just crop it as described in the thread.

Great, so we all it's normal.

There are various ways of removing this and three (3) of these that I use are.
TMPGenc Source Creator and use the crop setting at 2 - 3.
The other is Vegas, if I have other work to do on the project, Film, Video.
You can use clip frame in TMPGenc Plus.
I would imagine there are many more.

    Good Luck

Never crop if it resizes. Mask it (cover it over with black).
