  1. First just let me say that I want to convert my SVCD's to DVD because that way I only have one disk. I have used both programs (SVCD2DVDMPG+ VS WinAVI Video Converter) and they both have worked very well. With WinAVI Video Converter it will converted my two SVCD's to DVD and it will be about 4- 4.3 Gigs but with SVCD2DVDMPG+ it will convert the two SVCD's the DVD but they will be the same size as they were on the SVCD's. Example if the two SVCD's combined sized was 1.6 Gig, my DVD size would be 1.6 gig with SVCD2DVDMPG+. So my question is why the differnece in size between two programs? and which one should i use for this type of conversion? I'm not interected in menu's for this. Anyone?

    Thanks

  2. SVCD2DVDMPG doesn't convert the video, it only resample the audio to 48000 Hz. Therefore they are equal size. WinAvi reencode the video to DVD resolution and higher bitrate in order to fit DVD disc - then the files are bigger. If your player support svcd resolution on DVD disc stay with SVCD2DVDMPG

SVCD2DVDMPG+ will not only resample the audio, it will rewrite the headers of the disc to "trick" the DVD player into thinking it is seeing a valid disc.

The problem with this method is that - like all "header trick" methods - it has limited compatibility. If it works on your player, GREAT! You've just found a way to save on discs. But it doesn't work on my Pioneer (or ANY Pioneer, last time I looked into it) nor on limited players like the XBOX or PS2. I imagine my Cyberhome plays them fine, but then again with the Cyberhome I can just drag the MPG files to a disc and play them back from the main menu, so there's little point.
