  1. Hi, this is my first post, so please don't bash me

I have a English DVD, which has recently been released in Germany, too.

Now I would like to add the German soundtrack to my English DVD, so I can watch the DVD with my friends who don't speak English, too.

I don't know if it's illegal to rip only a soundtrack of an existing DVD which I don't own if I have the orignial DVD in another language, so please tell me if this is illegal.

Anyway, is it possible to add a soundtrack to a DVD (of course by building a new one)?

Yes, it probably is illegal to rip the audio from a disk you don't own, however I'm not a law-talkin' guy, so consult your local legislature.

If I was doing it, I would

Rip the audio track required from disk 1
Rip just the movie and english audio from disk 2
Load these into DVD Lab Pro and author
    Burn to disk and watch

There are many ways to rip the bits you need. If I didn't want to download any other tools, I would use DVD Shrink in reauthor mode to get a movie only rip of each disk. I would load these into DVD Lab Pro and let it demux. I would then rearrange the assets as needed, dropping the extra video track you would have. Not to difficult or time consuming. You should be able to knock it over in under 2 hours.

As I said, there are tools, such as vobblanker and DVD Audio ripper if you want to download/install extra software. But if you have Shrink it will work as well.

  3. Here's a guide to do that:

You can use TMPEGenc DVD Author (TDA) instead of DVD lab pro; easier to use and cheaper, but only gives you basic menu function, no language menu, unless you do some magic with Ifoedit. Get IFOedit from the tools section, here. While your there, check out all the guides for it (bottom of page).

I'd use VOBedit to demux the video and audio streams (take note of the audio delay). Then re-mux the video and two audio streams with IFOedit. Then import the resutlting DVD in TDA, make a menu and burn.
