  1. I've mastered a video in a DVD+R disc (Verbatim Digital Movie) and it plays flawless from the beginning to the end.
Then I made 2 copies on 2 DVD-R (Ritek G04) using DVD Decrypter and both discs came out with some blockiness and frame skipping.

Is this something usual in the dvd+r to dvd-r backups or I just had bad luck?
It is better to make dvd+r to dvd+r and dvd-r to dvd-r backups and not mix them?

    Thanks

  2. This has nothing to do with the copying process, the copies will be bit for bit exact. This is a problem of media/player compatibility. Evidently your DVD player prefers the + media you used over the - media. This could just as easily be a media quality problem as a + or - compatibility issue. Try a better quality - media such as ones made by Tayo Yuden.

  3. If you mastered the DVD, then there should be no encryption. Why not use Nero and do a DVD Copy command? There's nothing wrong with using DVD Decrypter on an unencrypted disc, but it seems like an additional step to me.

When you played it back, are you playing it on a stand-alone player or your PC? If you are playing on your PC, then it's true that some burners have a preference to +R or -R. Most newer stand-alone players could care less.

Make sure that you are not burning faster than the media allows. I have some older Optodisc that are designed to burn at 1X. I can burn them at 2X (the slowest speed that my Toshiba DL burner will burn), but I'll get skipping and freezing about 10% of the time. When I reburn at 1X on my Pioneer Burner, there are no problems. I have also had some burned discs that would read fine in one burner but not the other, and vice-versa.

As for the Ritek G04, I have used them without problems. There is a rating of media on this site. Look to the left under Lists > DVD Media. Several people do recommend the Tayo Yuden media. While I have not personally used it, I'm sure it is top notch.

  4. do a disc-disc copy, no ripping.
probably it's media problem, if still no luck, then it's media for sure

  5. @Cinemagic: Why use Nero or some other comecial program when DVD decrypter does it faster and better and free?

@Hollow Oddities: I too used Ritek G04 before but suddenly they would only burn at 2x speed instead of 4x so I went and got myself a new burner, but now it burnt at 4x but the quality of the burn was kind of Sh***y so I got myself some beter media and all problems went away...

It's a media issue. Either your player doesn't like the discs, or your burner doesn't burn them well. One or the other. Has nothing to do with your process which is likely just fine.

I think 95% + of the people burning DVDs have Nero loaded on their computer. If so, then that's why I said Nero. Of course a Windows Copy/Paste does the same trick for non-encrypted DVDs and that's free as well. Nothing wrong with DVD Decrypter. I use it instead of AnyDVD for the reason that it's free and reliable.

    The Riteks might be bad.
Maybe scan them...or try some different discs.

It's no different than copying "-" to "-".

It is better to make dvd+r to dvd+r and dvd-r to dvd-r backups and not mix them?
    It makes no difference.
