Hi All, At the moment I am running Pinnacle 8. I have been given v9 which I suspect is a pirate. I have run it and a couple of files didnt load, would you recomend I try it. Does anyone have any opinion on Pinnacle I find it fine but it is the only software I have ever used. I only really do holidays xmas's etc....

You *suspect* v9 is a pirate? If it's just a blank disk with "Pinnacle 9" written on it with a sharpie, or if it doesn't have a label with the cute little Pinnacle chick holding up a disk or a camera or whatever, then it is a copy (pirated).
You can always try installing it and if it doesn't work, uninstall it and reinstall 8, unless you don't have a disk for 8 either.
You said, "I have run it and a couple of files didnt load,". Then you ask, "would you recomend I try it." Sounds like you already have, unless running it and finding out a couple of files didn't load would be considered *not* trying it.
Or do you mean, should I get a real copy of Pinnacle 9 and try it? If that's what you mean, then yes, buy it and try it. I have used both 8 and 9, and *in my opinion*, 9 is a little better. Just remember, if you buy 9 somewhere, you won't be able to return it if you don't like it. -
I personally think Pinnacle Studio 8 sucks.
Having said that, I do use it. But I use it in a limited copacity. I only use it to capture.
I think Pinnacle tried to but too much functionality all in one program and instead of making one program that did one thing great, they ended up making a program that did everything mediocre.
The program seems very buggy for most users and I personally have never gotten it to make a complete DVD. The system will always hang during the process. S8 will still crash sometimes when I'm in timeline view and a scrub too fast. (It's not my ATI9800se video card's fault)
I bought S8, it does what I need it to, it captures the video at pretty high quality. Other than that, I only use it if I need to output to VHS.
I most certainly wouldn't buy or upgrade to S9...fool me once.... -
AVID aquired PINNACLE SYSTEMS earlier this month.
Expect bug fixes soon after AVID software is fixed.
Just kidding, but usually when SOFTWARE companies are aquired by competitors, they either KILL the platform, or change it so it COMPLEMENTS the user base of their "other" product!
I myself have been equally frustrated with PINNACLE LIQUID products as well as the excedingly bloated and dysfunctional STUDIO series of releases
(as home user of STUDIO 7 (I purchased a LYNX once...dont ask...) -
I also think Studio 8 has a major memory leak in it somewhere.
But hey, what do you expect from a company who made instant Copy 7 so that 1000 MB = 1 GB and failed to fix that little "insignificant" piece of data in IC8. -
Studio 8 works fine as long as you don't try to use AVI compressions that it doesn't support (DivX and XviD).
It also seems to have problems with certain framerates.
I usually run an AVI through Virtualdub and make a Huffyuv AVI before opening in Studio 8. I like the transitions and the slow motion features in Studio but I doubt that I would pay for the program with all the bugs and it's failure to handle most file types. My copy came free with my ATI card.
I use Studio 8 or another program I got free with a USB Videobus, MGI VideoWave III to do transitions but for straight video editing, I use Virtualdub the most. -
