Never liked the Elecard codec, it once went in strangely and resisted all attempts to reinstall properly..seemed like a 'bad' mpeg codec if there's such
    a thing

Elecard codec may not be the best one out there, but many freeware applications use it...

Let's hope mainconcept keep the semi-freeware version online...

I like Elecard's Mpeg2 codec. Works well on HDTV sources.

Check the Double Precision IDCT and post process in the playback settings and then use directshowsource with mpeg1 and mpeg2-you will see details which were not there earlier.
The best playback codec for mpg1 and mpg2 in my opinion. You want to remove it-use Radlight Filter Manager and simply reduce the merit.
