There was a program that could do that, I think it was called I-On-VCD or something like that...but nowadays its best to just use Media Player Classic for autoplay needs. You can store it on the disk and just write a simple autorun script. It has its own mpeg1 decoder or you can include a 3rd party one if you want. Everything is stored on the disk so it will play in any computer.

You can use Roxio VideoDisk Player for creating autorun VCDs.
Simply create a file called AUTORUN.INF with following lines
[autorun]
OPEN=vcd_play.exe
Place both the INF file and VCD_PLAY.EXE file in the root folder when creating VCD like shown below. This is a Nero snapshot.
And you have an autorun VCD.

Actually I tried to upload the EXE file. Maybe it didnt upload properly. Now I have compressed it as RAR to save space.

As adam mentioned, you could always just include a copy of the Windows Media Player Classic EXE file, and put an autorun.inf file containing:
Code:[autorun] open=MPC.EXE /play /close Movie.mpg
@sanjayk:
vcd_play.rar
There ya goIf in doubt, Google it. -
Yes MPC is also a good choice considering it is small in size. VCD_PLAY will automatically recognize the VCD file structure on the disk and play the DAT files. While if using MPC, full path name for the files may have to be given.
@Jimmalenko
If you have uploaded this vcd_play.rar file, kindly tell me how. I tried 2 times and could not !!When I was born I was so shocked that I could'nt speak for 18 months. -
The trick is to post whatever you're going to post (in the way of text or whatever), and then browse to the file you want to upload, hit submit, and upload it initially without linking to it at all. Then edit the post and put [*url]filename.ext[/url] (without the *, naturally) in your post, and hit submit. Hey presto, the file is now linked properly !
If in doubt, Google it. -
Thanx Jim.
