Well guy's, I told you I would keep you updated on my 'Toppy-Jess' system. Here is part of what the 'Toppy-Jess' ad say's on ebay :-
Latest chipset that eliminates problems with previous chipsets. (This chipset will reset to 90% full when the ink meter drops below 10% without you having to restart your printer. This prevents unnecessary charging, save your even more money on ink and prolongs the life of your printer.) THESE SYSTEMS WILL NOT CLEAN THE PRINT HEAD AND CHARGE THE INK BEFORE EVERY USE!
Well, my black has just reset to 100%, and the printer performed a cleaning cycle !!!
I understand macrovision has the same chipset on his system purchased from 'Printonadime', this is what they say on their website :-
New Chipset Features:
THESE SYSTEMS WILL NOT CLEAN THE PRINT HEAD AND CHARGE THE INK BEFORE EVERY USE!
The ink levels in the ink monitor will decrease as you print. When your ink levels drop below 10%, they will be reset to 90% full preventing any unnecessary charging of the printer.
These new chipsets will save you even more money on ink and prolong the life of your printer.
And as you all know, his system reset to 100% & performed a cleaning cycle.
Do the manufacturer's of these system's think we are all mug's ?

I received an E-Mail from they printonadime company...according to what knowledge I've gained through my CIS research/knowledge of electronics my auto-reset problem transpires from turning my printer off prior to the reset...The spokesperson was too nice about it stating that He/She would "rather close-down the company before falsely advertising" and "would send me replacement auto-reset chips or send me the ones off the printer that they use if I continue to have the auto-rest problem" I feel bad....not because I was wrong but because I wasn't trying to accuse any-one of anything...I know that the actual manufacturer of the printonadime most likely isn't the company that sell the CIS and I also know that the auto-reset technology cannot keep track of the ink levels if the printer is off and if it's off before the chips get a chance to reset, While the levels are low enough( 15%-11%) they may indeed think that there's an error and reset to 100%...Sorry if my comments were misunderstood, My point about false advertising were meant to insure consumers that read this forum that by law if you buy anything from any company in the United States Of America that Federal law requires the company to advertise truthfully or they can be held accountable for any defects...this means your entitled to getting your money back plus any other fees accured during the problem...I.E. Court fees and other expenses...Cartridges,New Printer,E.C.T.....I love the hospitality Printonadime has shown me and I truly feel bad for the misunderstanding! SORRY!
Is what we learn indeed a fact, or someones opinon? -
Sorry to post immediately but I left out the main point...The printer needs to be left on all the time...It won't do an auto-clean cycle if you turn it off while the levels are ALL High (90%-25%) but when they fall lower than that the printer needs to be left on until all chips reset to 90% then you can turn it off...I'm never gonna turn mines off...The R200 is known as the disposable printer anyway!
Is what we learn indeed a fact, or someones opinon? -
Well macrovision ,my printer is never off & yet it still reset to 100% & performed a cleaning cycle.
Will email 'Toppy-Jess' & see what they say. -
Bidefordboy, If that happens to me I'll contact printonadime...they said it could be a mistake on the Original manufacturers behalf and that they will rectify the situation by sending me replacement chips...even offered me a generous discount on my next purchase....I maintain all of my equipment so to ME it's not really a big deal but I'll see what's what and post regularly! and bidefordboy if you have needle nosed pliers and no waste mod I can tell you how to maintain the waste pad in detail...It'll keep you happy!!
Is what we learn indeed a fact, or someones opinon? -
Hi macrovision.
Like you I am not that upset about the chips not reseting as they should. What annoy's me is all the false advertising that go's on nowaday's. A lot of these company's are only in it to make a quick buck. When the s**t hit's the fan they just move on to some other scam. It is up to the people that come to forum's like this to catch them out before they make too much profit.
If I had a company that was selling something made by someone else I would make sure the item performed as advertised before putting my name on it.
Anyway I will keep you posted. -
Bidefordboy, I noticed the yin and yang...very well said....Even in your attitude...The chipset is supposed to be type 2....a newer chipset....my main concern is the cart and tank construction because I'm experienced in servicing electronic equipment of all types...the autoreset chips are so sensitive that handling them with bare-hands will destoy them...this includes the Epson chips from the OEM carts....My advice is what I was taught...you might have heard it before....."If you take care of your car....it will take care of you"...I maintain my printer so much that if you saw it you'll think it was fresh out of the box...my waste pad looks new because every-time the unit does an auto-wastemyink cleaning I pull the waste-pad...wash all of my beloved ink off...dry the waste pad and re-insert it...(that's the one with the black casing)I also clean the white one from time to time....It takes about 3 minutes to do and my printer remains faithful to this day! If it autoresets to 100% again(on all the time) then I'll take printonadime up on the replacement chip offer! Here's a quote from the E-mail:
Well, first of all, I must say thank you again for your support on the Videohelp forum. That was a very interesting set of threads that I just read. And while I have you, I'll go ahead and reply to your last thread under the "Best CIS?..." topic. I have never, nor will I ever falsely advertise to you or anyone else. I will gladly shut this business down before I ever stoop so low as to mislead my customers. I can honestly tell you that if you ever receive something different than what was advertised, either one of two things happened. First, I either made a mistake in my ad. Or, two, I was sent the wrong item from my supplier and it passed as the original. Either way, I will make the sale right!!! Now, that being said, I will attempt to answer your question pertaining to the 100% full problem you are having. I saw in the forum that you had just removed one of your cartridges prior to resetting the ink levels. Is that correct? If so, that may be the cause for the ink lever resetting back to 100% and performing the cleanings. However, if that is not the case, then lets move on. I see that you turned your printer off and back on again in order to reset the ink levels. You should not have to do this. I know that the instructions tell you to do so, but you should not. What happened there is, the first systems my partner and I started selling required you to turn the printer off and back on again in order to reset the ink levels. You should not have to do that with your system. The systems we sell now should reset automatically on their own once they reach 10%. I can tell you that my system resets itself with my having to turn the printer off. I need to remove that section from the instructions. If for some reason your system does not reset itself, then let me know. I will send you a set of new chips. If I have to, I'll send you the chips off my system. Like I said before, I will never falsely advertise anything that I sell. I don't need money that bad to lower myself to that standard. You have my word on that!Is what we learn indeed a fact, or someones opinon? -

Still waiting for a reply from 'Toppy-Jess'.
Macrovision, what was that advice you were going to give me on maintaining the waste pad ? .
I don't have a waste bottle attached yet, something I have been meaning to do. My waste ink counter is on 55%. -
Still waiting for a reply.
My Lt.Magenta has just reset to 100% & printer performed another cleaning cycle.
Have emailed 'Toppy-Jess' again. -
I pm you in an hour bidefordboy
Is what we learn indeed a fact, or someones opinon? -
Yellow has just reset, another cleaning cycle.
This is just to show you all how wastefull it is when the chip's reset to 100% each time.
The colour's are all usually pretty close when the monitor read's approx 10%, so if you have a batch of pic's to print out you could end up doing 6 head clean's within a hour.
Have received no reply's to my emails to 'Toppy-Jess', so cannot recommend this system to anyone at the moment.
Waste ink counter now on 57%. -
Lt.Cyan has just reset, another cleaning cycle.
Waste ink counter now on 58%.
It's ok guy's, won't bother you with cyan & magenta -
Just received a email from Toppy-Jess', will remind you of what they say in their ad on ebay :-
Latest chipset that eliminates problems with previous chipsets. (This chipset will reset to 90% full when the ink meter drops below 10% without you having to restart your printer. This prevents unnecessary charging, save your even more money on ink and prolongs the life of your printer.)
This is what they say in their email :-
Dear customer,
Our "Non-clean printer-head" Chip is designed to
protect the printer-head. If the printer-head is
cleared each time you turn off the printer,
it will speedup the ageing of printer-head and waste
more ink.
This kind of chips shall read the ink level. When
there is only 10% ink left, pls turn off the printer
and switch back on, the chips shall be full again.
Thanks
toppy-jess
I know it's late here (01.43am), but am I missing something ? -
Lier,Lier...pants on fire...Bullshi*...oops I almost typed everthing I was thinking....Bidefordboy...goto the printer settings menu...choose speed and progress...and check disable status monitor 3.....now try the ssc utility....right click the taskbar icon...(looks like a printer)....and choose the automatic ink freezer(make sure it's checked)...let us know if that works.....SOOO MUCH BULLS**T IN THE WORLD......Maintaining!!!!!
Is what we learn indeed a fact, or someones opinon? -
Bidefordboy...I think that the Epson status monitor thinks it's smart...I disabled mines...I printed about 10 full color DVD's and when I was finished enabled the status monitor and my ink levels were the same as when I started printing.....don't forget to reset the protection counter when you clean the waste pad.....everytime that is! and also enable the automatic ink freezer...I've read the help section of the ssc utility and it say's it'll remember the ink counter values if you disable the Epson status monitor and enable the auto-freezer...remember to check the start-up with windows in the main window of the ssc service utility(I trust this program more than I trust the auto-reset chips)...you can get it here: http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml. If you wanna know what I think..."The world offers a chance to SH*T.... that's what we get after we eat!"....I would clean my waste pad at this point Bidefordboy...Stop being scared...print the directions I sent you...as you know "practice makes perfect" Once you do it a couple of times you will understand that maintenance is the key to equipment survival and maintaining the R200 is rather easy...I don't care if mines auto-cleans every once in a while because I pull the waste pad and rinse it immediately...I get perfect nozzle checks till this day and I adore my printer...It's like cheating on my Girl!!!!! And I think the printer likes it!!!
Is what we learn indeed a fact, or someones opinon? -
Yep, it's me again. Yesterday I sent 'Toppy-Jess' another email, here is a copy :-
In your ad on ebay you state :-

This morning I received a email from them :-
Dear customer,
We apologize for our mistakes and the inconveniences
that caused you. Due to our recent switch of suppliers
for our product, we have just found out from our
customers that the chipset which we have from our new
supplier were not the latest chipset that we've
ordered. Because of this mistake, we are willing to
offer you one set of refill-ink (600ml) at free of
charge. we hope that it would recompense your lost.
The refill ink will be shipped tomorrow. You should
be receiving them very soon.
Sorry for the inconvenience again.
Toppy-jess
This is great new's for me, as the system is running so sweet I did'nt want to remove it.
Will be fitting the waste ink bottle later on today.
Macrovision, thanks very much for all your help. I will get around to cleaning the waste pad's as you suggested soon.
Now I wonder where I could get a set of the latest chip's. Any suggestions.? -
Bidefordboy....I hate to say this but...you don't wanna know....not only is it $90 for all 6 chips but as I've posted...they must be handled carefully...Anti-Static wrist strap carefully! you can get them from http://www.colorbat.com or http://www.inksupply.com ....remember to print those instructions before removing the watse pad...Oh!! and "WHAT AN EXCUSE"....I wanted to post last time that when I saw the Toppy-Jess posting on E-Bay it stated that the company was in the U.S.A. but If I remember correctly you stated that the kit was shipped to you from china? Anyways "WHAT A BITC*" USE THE SSC UTILITY AS I RECOMMENDED BECAUSE AT THIS POINT YOU CAN'T LOSE ANYMORE....USE THE INK FREEZER COMMAND. And by the way...I informed you that the construction of the CIS carts was the main issue.....My tanks are small (30ml) but I can print about 150 full color dvd's before I need to refill....and If I ever need to re-prime the carts I don't have to worry about breaking it.....I hate the auto-reset issue because It's the only problem....before it was leaks and routing thanks to the geniouses that suggested electrical tape, dvd case spines, and hot glue to route the tubes what were we supposed to do with the clips...leave them in the box/throw them away? Ingenious! Last but not least...I found another interesting link here: http://inksupply.info/index.php?_a=knowledgebase ........BYE!

Thank's again macrovision. But I have tried using the SSC Utility before & could'nt get it to work on my r300. I did disable the monitor & tried to use the 'ink freezer' function. I also enabled it to start up with Windows, but no luck.
But earlier I was looking through the older post's & found one by 'dmagic1' :-
Press the ink button on the printer. Once the carriage moves to the exchange position press the ink button again. Next time you print, the carts at 1/4 and lower should reset.
I had forgotten all about it. Anyway I tried it. On the r300 you do the following :=
Press ink button
Press OK
Press OK again
When carriage is in exchange position press OK again
Then press OK again
And lo & behold when I opened up the monitor both my cyan & magenta carts (which were both just below the 1/4 mark) had reset to full .
And I had only just finished fixing my waste ink bottle.
So it look's like all problem's solved for the time being.
Also Mac, I see what you mean about the price of the chip's. They cost as much as a complete system at the moment.
Have also asked 'Toppy-Jess' if he could supply a set of the latest chip's at the right price. Will let you know if i get a responce. -
They should send the chips to you for free....that's what printonadime said they'll do for me....it's not your fault...why should you pay twice?

Hi
I have the R300 and I use the SSC service utility but I did find this advice on the web
quote
Press and hold 'stop' 'maintenance' and 'power' buttons for about 10 seconds, a message will come on the screen saying counter is reset and to turn off.
Thats it I tried it and it works on the R300, don't know about the R200life's a shit sandwich and everydays a bite -
Hi mate.
Have you still got this system http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7510877175&category=57066&sspagenam...=rvi:1:1v_home only with dye ink . How is it going ?
Any prob's with the ink from http://www.dpsoftware.com ?
I still have 200mls of it (each colour), and 'Toppy-Jess' has just dispatched another 100ml of each colour, so I should be ok for a while .
The tip is cetainly the quickest way to reset the ink counter.
I see you use the SSC service utility on you r300. Can you get the 'ink freezer' function to work ? -
I will research the r300....I hate that it uses the same carts but not the same software!!! will post results tommorrow!
Is what we learn indeed a fact, or someones opinon? -
Hi bidefordboy
yes I am using that system with no problems at all and I find his inks very good, thanks for putting me on to him.
I had a problem installing the SCC program, I think I had to uninstall the Epson printer then reinstall it but with just the drivers,(minus the ink monitor) then I installed the SCC and it went in ok, and yes I use the ink freezer and it seems to work fine. I tried it without the freezer and the printer started to do to many cleaning cycles so I went back to the freezer.
I am glad the tip worked for you.life's a shit sandwich and everydays a bite -
Just wanted to post something I was E-Mailed from printonadime....I was told that the ink levels will appear to be 100% but in fact be 90% however I need to leave the printer on...the person stated that if I leave my R200 on and still have the problem that they'll send me the chips off their system because their system resets to 90% and never autocleans....I believe them! Good service...The best I've ever had!!Thanks Printonadime!!!!!! And Bidefordboy...It sounds like you only have to remember to use those steps when your levels are 1/4 down and you won't have autocleaning issues....am I right? I'm leaving mines on because I'm gonna do a shi*load of printing for the next couple of weeks..it will reset...I know that and I'll post what it does!
Is what we learn indeed a fact, or someones opinon? -
Hey Macrovision
Hope your chip's reset ok this time. When mine reset I checked the level's with a programme I got from the Ozmod's site (Epson Service Utility), & the black level was 98%, but this was after the printer had done a cleaning cycle, so it had reset to 100%.
The 'dmagic1' tip mentioned in my next to last post certainly reset my cyan & magenta, & the printer did'nt perform a cleaning cycle. But will wait untill I have tried it a few more time's before I can say it work's 100%.
The trick is to catch the level's just before they reset automatically. My cyan & magenta were just below 1/4.
The Epson service utility at the Ozmod's site is for the r300, but I think the r200 & r300 are the same internally. Why not get it & try it out. You will need to register (it's free), & look in the Firmware & Utilities section. -
Thanks Bidefordboy....I have 2 R200's and an Hp psc1210....I wanted to know about the R300 to help you... If I buy another epson It'll be an R800 but the CIS for it is very Expensive.... More than twice the cost of the printer!.... I've been at the DVD printing thing for about 10 Hours!!! My ink levels hardly moved.... Maybe it's because I haven't turned my printer off in 24hrs....This is confusing me because I've printed about 20 full color DVD's... Ive got 30 more to go!!! GOOD GRIEF!
Is what we learn indeed a fact, or someones opinon? -
I could be mistaken, but I believe I read somewhere that epson printers should be left powered "on." It has something to do with providing a small amount of electric current to the print head in order to prevent nozzle clogging. The epson printers use a small electric charge to create the ink droplets that form an image.
This might have some impact on how often the printheads need to be cleaned, if it is indeed correct. Some people say dog is mans best friend. I say that man is dog's best slave... At least that is what my dogs think. -
Yes, The actual printhead Is manufacturered by Seiko(The watch company) and it's a piezoelectric element...basically a cross between a transistor and Quartz....Quartz is a crystal used in clocks as you may know but it's also used as the speaker in PDA's,Beepers, and of course digital watches...now it's used to open and close microscopic nozzels in the printhead and it works simular to the way transistors work, So I think you might be on to something but as a tech(still doing odd jobs on the side and Maintenance at work) I don't like to leave equipment like this on because it contains power transistors that rectify voltage and also regulates voltage.... These transistors have to be heat sinked properly because they heat up...some need constant ventilation others are made with an internal thermosister....this part shuts it down if it gets too hot.....I believe that equipment will last longer if you shut it down except in this case and a few others for example computers need to be left on or at least in stand by mode. As for the printer placing a charge on the printhead...I don't believe so, Because the charge would release ink....I heard that printing something every day or so helps the most......Even when my printer was new it did the intial charging...I pulled the waste pad and cleaned it because the head parks over the waste pad when the printer is in use and all I can see is my new printhead over or on all of that wasted ink...AHHHH!....I leave my printer on now for the sake of the auto-reset chips but any autocleans and the waste pad is getting cleaned...I get perfect nozzle checks till this very day!!! And now I really love my R200....NO LIE!!!!
Is what we learn indeed a fact, or someones opinon? -
Well, I just learned something too.
After running fine for about six weeks, my CIS has packed it in and won't be getting re-installed.
It's not the JLW set, but came from 2004wangchun (W CHAN - TINSHUIWAI,, NT Hong Kong) -- one Jacky Chan Wang Chun.
Would have got the JLW, but for some reason he didn't come up on an Ebay search that day.
Looks like the same unit tho'.
Two days ago the R310 started printing garbage photo's -- I found the cyan wasn't feeding.
No amount of head cleaning made any difference -- it wouldn't discharge a
solitary dot, but the other five heads were fine.
Pulled the cart, could suck ink through no problem, cart was full anyway, but still no trace of cyan when put back, which didn't suggest a head clog or air lock (after running Epson inkjets ever since the original Epson Color, I know my way around those) but something more serious.
Pulled it again, cleaned the chip contacts (wasn't getting any error messages, so this was sort of a last try) -- didn't expect any result from this & was right.
Took the whole unit out and installed the (still new) OEM set -- perfect nozzle check at first try.
Took the CIS out to the workshop, where I can splash ink around without fear of retribution and checked the ink flow again -- still no problem, sucked through quite easily and the cart is definitely full, so I guess it's most likely a failed chip.
Then I picked the outfit up to put it in a box and got yellow ink all over my hands -- leaking "valve" (quotes intentional) and quick cleanup needed.
As I said, it won't be going back in.
So, back to the drawing board -- anyone got a sensible suggestion for replacement (I'm in Australia, so most of the stuff stocked in the US isn't an option and all I've seen locally so far costs more than the printer, so it's pretty much Hong Kong stuff.)
Incidentally, I fooled myself a bit (and took longer to find the problem) by running the MIS purge test, which printed all six colour strips and had me really scratching my head -- how could it print cyan when there wasn't any?
Looks like it doesn't print from a single cartridge at all, but in fact mixes colours.
