This has been covered in a sticky, I know, but I hope this is different enough to warrant a post here. If not, I apologize in advance.
I recently formatted an reinstalled Windows XP Home (don't you love posts that start with those words?). Prior to the format, I was able to open avi files in TMPGenc 100% of the time and convert tom to mpg with audio, import the mpg into TMPGenc DVD Author, and burn. It was a simple, two step process and I loved it. Please note that I did not have to extract and convert the audio in order to get an mpg with sound.
I always check my avis with Gspot to check frame rate before converting. I also note the audio format. I know that many of the avi's had MP3 and AC3 audio tracks before. They never gave me trouble. I didn't even know until recently that TMPGenc had issues with MP3. Do you see what I'm getting at?
I am wondering if anyone knows what I may have changed that would make TMPGenc now require me to do the wav conversion thing. I'm using the exact same setup as I was before. I've installed the exact same versions of the same programs as before. Is there something in SP2 or WMP 9 that would cause this change? I hate it and I wish I could just go back to opening an avi, converting it, and burning the outputted mpg!
Any insight here would be most appreciated.

Hey UncleScam,
Are you sure you got all of the codecs that may have been previously installed on your machine to enabe decoding for viewing via TMPGenc/WinMediaPlayer, etc.?
I know I was in a similar pinch, then it hit me that I didn't have all the codec's installed, went out and got them and re-installed them onto my pristine XP build and voila! She was good to go!

i've had almost the same problem
i used to drop .avi's into TMPGEnc and convert to a .mpg file and then drop the .mpg into TDA and burn a DVD
my PC got ruined and I had to build a new one and now TMPGEnc will only let me create .m2v/.wav files when converting .avi to DVD....
same OS, all the same codecs, i even tried it with files that I had already done it with before
i never did figure it out & just resigned myself to using the .m2v/.wav combination instead of a .mpg"To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." - Steven Wright

Have you tried using the 'unlock.mcf' template that comes with TMPGenc? I recall a similar issue, and using the unlock template, I was then able to once more output to mpg's no problem.
Try it and see - you can also use the elementary streams or combined streams options right off the mani screen.
Hope this helps!"I've got a present for ya!" - TTWC
